Here is a naturally spherical stone that we found! It was in a loose shale slab after falling from the cliff onto the beach... Once extracted we opened it up with our large hammer! What will be inside? 🐊🔨 These ammonites are around 185 Million Years Old and looked a little like modern day squid! We found these perfect limestone rocks in a huge loose slab of shale! 🌊 🏝️ Shale like this was once soft mud and clay millions of years ago! Once it has fallen from the cliff the layers start to decompress, making the shale very fragile… Over time this shale will naturally erode into beach shingle! Many of the shale slabs you see in the summer completely disappear by winter time due to the rough seas and storms! Here’s a huge Ichthyosaur vertebra we found in a rock pool! How long had it been sat there? The surrounding nodule was coated in natural pyrite which we had to remove using the tools at home.
