Here are three Jurassic Age nodules we found on the beach! We hoped they would contain Ammonite fossils from the Jurassic! 😁 One of the nodules had fossil shells on its surface but after splitting the first couple we had no luck with the stones being completely empty! One was in a loose shale slab after falling from the cliff onto the beach, the other was completely loose and had broken free naturally from its surrounding shale… Once extracted we opened them up with our hammer 🏝🌊 The first nodule was completely empty! Inside the second nodule, a stunning tenuicostatum ammonite from the Jurassic 😍🦑 These ammonites are around 185 Million Years Old and looked a little like fossil squid! On one of our recent hunts we came across this huge round stone with some calcite veins running though it and decided to investigate further 🦕 Although it’s not a fossil we thought it was still worth checking on the off chance something was hidden within. The soft shale is made up of clay and silt and once exposed to the elements after falling from the cliff, these large lumps of shale decompress and become very unstable! 😁 The first nodule contained a beautiful tenuicostatum Ammonite fossil… With a little persuasion from the hammer the second rock in the video split perfectly in half to reveal a stunning Eleganticeras Ammonite fossil!
