On Day 13, I had a follow up with my Dermatologist who agreed that overall my skin was improving and she wasn’t worried about infection anymore since the blisters had dried up. The swelling is the last to go, especially around the eyes since the skin is so thin there. After a nap in the morning while @dantransform kept all the kids entertained and taken care of, my eye was able to open more. The Bigs have been attentive and understanding that I have an “ouchie.” They come over to say hi when I emerge from the room and say “眼 open” aka “eye open.” I’ve been taking my work meetings without video 😎 and always so thankful to be able to work from home. If this reaction isn’t or is not just poison oak, the road to uncovering what this reaction stems from feels like a long one where I don’t even know where to start. We never thought we’d become “those parents” but here’s our honest thoughts after our impromptu no screen ban 14 days later… 1. Way less fighting and WAY MORE playing with each other! 2. Far less tantrums (like I mean a lot less)! 3. Less boredom. 4. Increased time outside 5. Much easier to get them to do activities and lastly, it’s actually made OUR lives easier as parents because we are dealing with less moody behaviour, happier boys and way less “stressed energy” (I’m not sure how to describe it but upon reflection I swear screens were just stressing our boys little brains out). It truly has blown me away seeing the difference and again I want to reiterate I NEVER EVER THOUGHT I would be talking about going no screens in our household because we used them all the time. It’s only when we took a step back and started reflecting on our use of them that one morning, entirely off the cuff we decided to cut the screens out indefinitely. We didn’t have a plan and truthfully thought it’d last until evening. However, the changes were almost instant and here we are, continuing to roll with it because the changes are so dramatic! Happy 3rd Birthday to H&K! When they were born, we were born as parents and the world has never been the same in the most wonderful, fulfilling and joyful way. Every birthday I feel emotions in every direction. It’s a happy day filled with gratitude and pride. But I’m also flooded with the desperate desire to stop time, questions about whether I’ve embraced the present enough, fear that I missed a moment I’ll never get back, and the overwhelming realization that their littleness is fading bit by bit. It makes my heart full and my chest tight. It makes me smile and sends tears down my face. When I became a mother, I wasn’t prepared for this constant feeling of being torn between the past, present, and future. Today we celebrated the Bigs with family and now as they nap, I’m reliving their 3 beautiful years. Tonight we will have a slumber party in the living room, which I have been eagerly anticipating. Although I miss the days they fit in one hand and nights they needed me to go to sleep, I am filled with gratitude that they are growing older, love for every stage they’ve lived, and pride for what incredible little humans they are growing into. @dantransform doesn’t really feel the same degree of “sadness” (I’m not quite sad, but there’s pain where I would expect joy to be) and nostalgia as I do. Maybe it’s a mom vs dad thing, I’m not sure!
