✨Day 12✨ Waking up with my eye more swollen than the night before was discouraging because this was Day 3 of taking Prednisone, an oral steroid, and I was ready for it work…faster. I was so itchy and @dantransform wanted to help put some ointment on my skin while I ate so I could get something in my stomach before taking my next dose 🥹. The love he pours into me in sickness and in health overflows and has been such a blessing in helping me to heal and stay positive. Even though the effects were slower than anticipated and parts of my face seemed worse, I felt hopeful the Prednisone was working because my weeping blisters were drying up and my jaw was less swollen. The best thing to calm the itchiness has been cold compress - gel ice packs, bags of ice, and cold aluminum cans. Attempted to sleep with a combo of those around my neck and on my face 😎 Our family is still feeling so much encouragement, positive energy, and love from you guys and your support means more to us than you will ever know. On Day 13, I had a follow up with my Dermatologist who agreed that overall my skin was improving and she wasn’t worried about infection anymore since the blisters had dried up. The swelling is the last to go, especially around the eyes since the skin is so thin there. After a nap in the morning while @dantransform kept all the kids entertained and taken care of, my eye was able to open more. The Bigs have been attentive and understanding that I have an “ouchie.” They come over to say hi when I emerge from the room and say “眼 open” aka “eye open.” I’ve been taking my work meetings without video 😎 and always so thankful to be able to work from home. If this reaction isn’t or is not just poison oak, the road to uncovering what this reaction stems from feels like a long one where I don’t even know where to start. Happy 3rd Birthday to H&K! When they were born, we were born as parents and the world has never been the same in the most wonderful, fulfilling and joyful way. Every birthday I feel emotions in every direction. It’s a happy day filled with gratitude and pride. But I’m also flooded with the desperate desire to stop time, questions about whether I’ve embraced the present enough, fear that I missed a moment I’ll never get back, and the overwhelming realization that their littleness is fading bit by bit. It makes my heart full and my chest tight. It makes me smile and sends tears down my face. When I became a mother, I wasn’t prepared for this constant feeling of being torn between the past, present, and future. Today we celebrated the Bigs with family and now as they nap, I’m reliving their 3 beautiful years. Tonight we will have a slumber party in the living room, which I have been eagerly anticipating. Although I miss the days they fit in one hand and nights they needed me to go to sleep, I am filled with gratitude that they are growing older, love for every stage they’ve lived, and pride for what incredible little humans they are growing into. @dantransform doesn’t really feel the same degree of “sadness” (I’m not quite sad, but there’s pain where I would expect joy to be) and nostalgia as I do. Maybe it’s a mom vs dad thing, I’m not sure! Healing hasn’t been a straight line, which has been frustrating because waking up feeling worse than the night before makes it hard to trust the process and to be patient. But after we have breakfast with the kids, @dantransform has been banishing me to our bedroom for a nap. It’s not easy for me to accept that I need to rest and remove myself from the excitement because I love being Velcro! But I know God is working through Dan to force me to slow down, which we’re hoping will also help my chronic headaches. Day 1 started with just a little itchy patch by my clavicle. Day 10 was the biggest transformation since this all started. I woke up first because I couldn’t sleep and crept up on @dantransform to surprise him while he was checking on the kids. I’m so appreciative of many of you who are concerned and urging me to go to the ER, but I’ve confirmed with my healthcare team that I’m safe at home on my regimen since I don’t have any respiratory or vision issues. I’m trying to be patient to give the meds time to work. The Bigs know I have an ouchie and studied my face because they were concerned. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to respond to everyone, but please know that your messages are so appreciated. Our family is thankful for your love, prayers, and support ❤️ We’ll be alright! 🥰 The Bigs have been helping Dan take care of me by saying “Mama eat,” “Noooo, mama ouchie” when they see me scratching, and “Mama sleep” when Dan banishes me into our room to go rest. The Littles have been helping by sleeping through the night most of this week for the first time(!) and handling the unexpected end of our breastfeeding journey so well. Since we’ve been slowly weaning naturally for 1.5m, once I started on the oral steroids, it felt like God’s timing to stop. With every challenge God had led us through, I fall more in love with @dantransform who rises to the occasion with positive energy and a smile. ✨8:14a - 10:33a✨ This was my first full day without oral steroids thinking that everything was cleared out of my system. Little did I know that night would be even itchier! Since sharing my skin reaction with you all, I have been overwhelmed with gratitude and the opportunity to connect, learn from, and be encouraged by so many of you. I hope that by openly sharing what’s been going on, it can make anyone going through skin, allergy, autoimmune or health issues in general not feel so alone. Even if my experience is not the same as yours, you may be able to find community in the comments as so many have graciously shared about their own health issues and it’s been inspiring. Thank you guys for checking in on me. I want to update you on what’s been going on- My parents and brother’s family went back to Hong Kong last week along with so many others for my 婆婆’s (mom’s mom) 100th birthday party. My 婆婆, the matriarch or our family, passed away on her 100th birthday peacefully in her sleep after seeing all her 7 children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her birthday party poetically turned into a celebration of life party for her loved ones to grieve, heal, share her stories, and celebrate joyously together. I think she waited. I think she was so full of peace, love, and satisfaction of a life well lived seeing all of her children together that she felt ready to let go. I’m grateful they had a chance to be with her one last time and that my mom and her siblings were all together to support one another. I’m grateful to share memories and feelings with my cousins and brother who also all lost their grandmother. I’m grateful my 婆婆 lived a full beautiful life filled with family togetherness, adventure, ping pong tournaments, mahjong with friends, going out to eat, and raising 7 children with my grandpa (公公）with 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. I’m grateful she’s back with our Lord reunited with my 公公 and watching over us. It’s tough knowing that I made a choice for my family to stay behind, but I know she always wanted what was best for us. Rewinding to catch you up on my skin reaction: At the end of my wedding vows, I said to @dantransform “I know the best is yet to come because with you our home will be filled with love, laughter, and lots of food.” I’ve felt this to my core even when we go through adversity. This allergic reaction has been a humble reminder that the things that truly matter are not on the outside, but in the people God put into my life to pour love into. Day 14, the first day I started feeling like I had turned a corner in my healing because I didn’t wake up with my eye swollen shut! This was a special day and made me feel so grateful to live in a home full of love and laughter 🥹
