I’ve turned down a flood of interviews over the past week or so. The requests have been pouring in and I hear its a great opportunity to grow my reach… but that’s not a motivator for me. I’ve got to protect my mental health. More than that, I dont trust mainstream media to allow us to really tell our story. I understand crisis sells, but I don’t want to engage if they won’t call me to also celebrate Haiti’s wins. I wont engage if they just want to guide the conversation into soundbites that will haunt Haiti, long after this crisis ends. With that being said, one of the only journalists I trust to tell our story is Vladimir Duthiers. Although it’s short, his summary today was excellent. My favorite summary from a journalist so far. I’ve enjoyed hearing from academics and experts such as Dr. Jemima Pierre and Jake Johnston, but this response by Vladimir Duthiers is the best summary from a main stream media personality. This was one of my favorite moments at the canal. As we swam the kids were telling me how proud they were to be Haitian. They asked for a photo with the flag I brought. ❤️🇭🇹 This canal is about agriculture but it’s also about identity. It’s reminding the next generation who we are, where we come from, and what we can accomplish when we come together. On Tuesday morning, I’ll be overseeing a major donation to the canal… 1,000 sacks of cement, 5 tons of iron, 6 trucks of river rocks, 6 trucks of sand, 6 trucks of gravel, 25 plywood, 25 large pieces of wood, and more will be delivered to the canal. YOU are making this possible. Thank you!!! I just learned the whole city is going to come observe the delivery and celebrate. They even shut down schools for children to see history in the making. This is also because 90% of the workers at this canal are young adults and children. Tuesday is going to be epic! KPK! KPR! We will be bringing over $20,000 USD worth of supplies but we still need your help. After sitting with some of the youth working today, I see we absolutely should consider giving the workers a financial gift. Would you consider contributing to get some funds in the hands of these volunteer? We did that twice in Wanament but since theres such a dire need for supplies here, I prioritized the supplies to work. I want to make sure to keep you updated on the progress at the canal. I’ve seen some posts about the canal being complete and I wanted to clarify the confusion. We’ve been releasing watee for testing but the canal is not complete. Hopefully this deeper dive will help clarify where we are. We are all celebrating the completion of some of these structures :)!
