I waited with several others for the 105 on the way back for 1 h and 15 min. The bus that eventually came through was rightfully packed and had “drop off only” displayed on the front. Our stop was “lucky” in that enough people got off so the bus driver allowed us on. At our next stop, the bus could only fit 1/3 of the people waiting. So many people stressed and slamming their hands/fists on the windows as we drove by. Who is impacted the most? Who is late for work, for an appointment, for school because we don’t collectively value pedestrian 👩🏿🦽👩🏽🦼🧑🏾🦯🚶♀️, bike, and transit as legitimate forms of transportation? Be a part of the change. Please share this story. Every single day. All over the U.S. and beyond. ✨🗣️✨ Everyone who walks, uses a wheelchair, uses a powered scooter, takes transit, bikes, and skates deserves safe, accessible, and comfortable INFRASTRUCTURE - especially when traveling on the same (bus route, grocery, school, clinic, library, etc) corridors as personal cars. DE-center single-occupant car systems. Prioritize👩🏿🦽👩🏽🦼🧑🏾🦯🚶♀️🚏🛹🚴🏾 mobility 🌳🌎. Thanks @billycantreed for sending this to me. #PedestrianDignity #Accessibility #Pedestrian #DeSoto #Texas #Sidewalks
Yes. It snows. And. 🗣️ DE-center single-occupant car systems so we have funding, corridor space, policy focus, and agency capacity (🎙️ infrastructure and all-weather maintenance) for all who walk, use a wheelchair, take transit, bike and skate. ✨ Re-sharing this one for ALL the reasons. #PedestrianDignity #Accessibility #Denver #MobilityJustice #Pedestrian #Wheelchair
Really grateful to have collaborated with @SarahAndersenComics on this. It dropped yesterday on our IG accounts. See her full post/caption here: “My whole life I have preferred public transit to driving. Recently, I was able to team up with @pedestriandignity to create this graphic to raise awareness about public transit issues. The most frequent transit routes outside of a city or town center are often some of the most unsafe and inaccessible. People who rely on or choose to take transit are daily darting and risking their lives to catch the bus, to get home from the bus stop, or waiting for the bus in the road because the bus stop is inaccessible. Many of these buses may still not arrive for 30 minutes to an hour or longer - esp. if it is at night or on a weekend. It is also common for bus stops to not have shelters or benches. Be a part of the change and start documenting and reporting unsafe and inaccessible transit routes to your town, city, county, and elected leaders. Whether you move by foot, wheelchair, bike, bus, or car, we all deserve safe, dignified, accessible, and comfortable transportation networks.
