👌🏻 Excellent painting. Just excellent. Jan Steen must have had loads of fun with this one, but he was also emphasizing the importance of marriage and family in a harmonious and civilized society. 👩🏻‍🎨 advertisement - Don’t miss the Royal Academy’s tribute to Angelica Kauffmann, the trailblazing co-founder of the Royal Academy of Arts in London.  🖼️ The exhibition shows Kauffmann’s path from child prodigy to one of the most sought-after painters in Europe. She and Mary Moser were the only two women among the 34 artists that founded the academy in 1768. Becoming so successful was 0no small feat, considering the fact that the 18th century art world was - surprise surprise - very male-dominated.  👀 So if you get the chance, go and have a look, it’s worth it. The exhibition offers a lovely glimpse into her striking works and unusual career. I loved it. 🎟️‘Angelica Kauffman’ runs through June 30th 2024.  Image list * Eleanora Sucking the Venom Out of the Wound of Her Husband, King Edward I, Angelica Kauffmann, 1776, private collection * Edward I, Sedilia at Westminster Abbey, unknown master, 1272- 1307 * Early fourteenth-century manuscript initial showing Edward and his first wife Eleanor of Castile, unknown artist * Angelica Kauffman, Cleopatra Adorning the Tomb of Mark Antony, c. 1769–70, The Burghley House Collection. * Edward I kills his attempted assassin, Gustave Doré, 19th century * Joseph Brown after W.M. #ad (ad) 👀 It’S sO BeaUTiFuUuUUL! I absolutely ADORE this image by William Blake, and if you want you can go see it with your own eyes in the @FitzMuseum. ⬇️ 👨🏻‍🎨 Their new exhibition, 'William Blake's Universe' is a real eye-opener, exploring the world of this radical British poet, painter and printmaker. I personally did not know he was SO multi-talented. The exhibition runs until 19 May and you can get your tickets on The Fitzwilliam Museum’s website. Recommended. ❤️ #arthistory #williamblake 🖼️ Head of a Damned Soul, c. 1788 - 90 👨🏻‍🎨 William Blake, after Henry Fuseli 📍Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge Credits - William Blake after Henry Fuseli, Head of a Damned Soul, c. 1788 – 90, engraving and etching on paper, © The Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge. - Two Heads of Damned Souls from Dante's "Inferno", Henry Fuseli, c.1770, The Art Institute of Chicago - John Williamson, Portrait of Henry Fuseli, 1789, Walker Art Gallery - Domenico di Michelino, Dante holding a copy of the Divine Comedy, 1465, fresco, Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence - James S. #ad 🖼️ (ad) Rubens painted The Miraculous Draught of Fishes specifically for the Church of Our Lady in Mechelen (Belgium), and yes: you can still see it in its original location! ❤️ Many artworks are designed to be hung at a specific location (a church, a palace…) but are later moved to museums. Which is a shame. Luckily, ‘Flemish Masters in Situ’ has mapped dozens of paintings, sculptures, altarpieces and other works that are still at the place for which they were originally created. Go visit flemishmastersinsitu.com to browse through this beautiful collection. 🥰 Visiting that location is an experience I can highly recommend: you are walking in Rubens’ footsteps and you see what he saw: the exact spot where his work would come, the lighting, the space around it. You cannot get closer to the essence of a work of art and to the spirit of a place. 🖼️ The Miraculous Draught of Fishes (1618-19) 👨🏻‍🎨 Peter Paul Rubens 📍Church of Our Lady across the Dyle Video made with the support of Flemish Masters Credits: - The Miraculous Draught of Fishes, Peter Paul Rubens, 1618-19, Photo by Bert Cluytens - A lady at the Fish Market in Antwerp, Adriaen van Utrecht, Marten Pepijn, undated, Rubens House, Antwerp - Still Life with Fish, Clara Peeters, 1612-1621, Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp - View of the altar of the fishmongers' guild with a triptych by Rubens in the interior of the Church of Our Lady across the Dyle, Jean-Baptist De Noter, City Archives Mechelen - View of the north side of the Church of Our Lady across the Dyle ca. 1790, Frans Arnold Van den Eynde, City Archives Mechelen #arttok #arthistory #rubens #fishing

#ad (ad) ❤️I recently visited the absolutely WONDERFUL Roger Raveeuseum in the quiet and rural Machelen-aan-de-Leie in Belgium. Inside the halls of this impressive museum, Raveel’s art comes to life like in no other place. And now is the perfect time to visit. 👀 Because the museum’s brand new exhibition “The Essence” is showing almost 100 works by Raveel. You can gaze at colorful paintings, drawings and objects that span his entire career. It’s a GREAT occasion to delve deep and get to know Raveel’s weird and fascinating universe. And if you combine it with a walk through the lovely little village of Machelen, located at and old arm of the idyllic river Leie, you have a perfect day out.  🎟️ “The Essence” runs from March 23rd until October 6th 2024. The sand! 🤯 Van Gogh’s sea of color holds a few hidden surprises, if you care to look close enough. 👀 Stuck inside Van Gogh’s thick layers of paint, you’ll find tiny grains of sand that got blown onto the canvas, as he painted this outside, on the beaches of Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. 🖼️ Seascape near Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, June 1888 👨🏻‍🎨 Vincent van Gogh 📍Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam #vincentvangogh #arthistory #arttok
