Good news for students. SUSI is now open for applications! I’ve made two big improvements to the student grant scheme. Firstly, I’ve increased the eligibility threshold so that more people can qualify and get supports. Secondly, I’ve made sure that students who earn money while studying don’t have their grant affected by their income. Evening all, 3 issues I've been working on today. Firstly, today we expanded the number of primary schools to benefit from Hot School Meals. 900 new primary schools are now getting Hot School Meals, that's an extra 100,000 children. By next year I want every primary school child in the country to benefit from this programme. Secondly, I met the Road Safety Authority with colleagues. I, like many across the country, am so concerned with the worrying trend of road deaths and serious injuries. We need a range of actions to address this and today was an important start. Thirdly, I chaired the cabinet committee on housing. Housing is our biggest societal issue and you can expect a series of further actions in the coming days. Quick update today from a Government meeting I chaired. We have agreed tougher sentences on knife crime and new measures on anti-social behaviour. We also agreed to do work on new powers for judges to issue longer sentences for heinous crimes.
