We need the past perfect to talk about something that happened *before something else* in the past. I had my dinner *before* my friend offered me food. Both actions were in the past, but my dinner happened earlier. Answer A is incorrect because it’s the present perfect. It’s something you can say at the time of having a conversation. For example, if I ask you: Would you like some food? You can say: No, thank you. I have already eaten.
