#ad Ad. Today we are back and I am showing you how by taking as little as 15 minutes each day, I have been treating wellness as a priority not a luxury, and how 2024 is the year you can too. It is more important than ever to prioritise our wellbeing. I’ve found this can be as simple as taking just a few minutes each day to do what I love, which as you all know for me is getting out in nature and gardening 😊👨‍🌾. This is why I have teamed up with @Audible to highlight the amazing wellness podcasts and audiobooks that can help with this journey. No matter your interests, Audible really has something for everyone! I have been learning something new by delving deeper into my love of all things space, by listening to Discover your Inner Astronaut. Putting on an episode while carrying out tasks in the garden, really helps me escape reality for just a few precious moments each day, and allows me to think deeper about what I am doing, and how to just live in that moment💚🌱 So please join me on my journey and listen to Discover Your Inner Astronaut on Audible today 😊, Thank you so much for watching, and I love you all, Joe 💚🌱😊 #HearandNow #ecotips #Sustainability #gardening #nature #gardentips

Today we are back and I am showing you how to grow an almost unlimited supply of fresh summer strawberries, all from just one original strawberry plant. 📣 Announcement: I have included lots more tips and tricks about gardening, nature, preserving, wildlife and cooking in my brand new book Garden To Save The World, 😊🌱💚 to secure your copy please follow the link in my bio 🙏 thank you. Strawberries and many other fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers can easily be propagated into lots of other free plants. One cheap strawberry plant can easily send out enough runners to make 5 or more new plants. Propagating plants is so much fun, super easy and can save you a fortune! It is worth noting, if you are not trying to produce more strawberry plants, simply remove these runners, which will produce a better harvest as the plant can put that energy back into fruiting. You can keep repeating this process until you have as many new plants as you need, but please be aware, the more you propagate from a plant the less fruits that plant will produce. Strawberries are perennial so they will come back year after year, and will often fruit better in the second year 😊 Thank you all for watching, Joe #strawberry #harvest #zerowaste #organic #gardentips #nature #gardening #Sustainability #ecotips

Today we are back and I am sharing my quick tip to create a simple DIY zero waste drip irrigation system. Drip irrigation is one of my favourite ways to water my plants on auto pilot. 📣 My new book Garden To Save The World which available to order now by following the link in my channel bio, contains so many more simple zero waste ways to save money in the garden, such as up-cycling pallets into raised beds and pallet planters, how to use household items to get seeds started, and using other common house hold items to help create the most amazing garden. 😊🌱 Thank you so much to everyone who has pre ordered, it really helps new books get noticed, and I appreciate every single one of you 💚 Watering your plants can be hard to keep on top of in the hot summer months, and drip irrigation is a great way to water them on autopilot. While you can buy drip irrigation systems, they can be very costly. Instead I like to use this method to make sure the soil stays nice and moist all day long. This method is great for container plants which are often prone to drying out, and it’s a great way to keep on top of your watering if you have to go away for a day or two. This method is especially useful for plants such as tomatoes that need frequent and consistent watering, which can be hard to do by hand. I like to swap out the bottles fairly regularly to avoid the sun causing them to turn brittle over time 😊🌱 I hope you are all having a great week and I love you all, Joe 💚 #watering #ecotips #zerowaste #gardening #gardentips #Sustainability

Today we are back and I am showing you how to harvest your basil and other herbs, in a way where the plant will just keep growing more and more. 📣 Announcement: I have included lots more tips and tricks about gardening, nature, preserving, wildlife and cooking in my brand new book Garden To Save The World 😊 to secure your copy please follow the link in my bio 💚🌱 thank you 🙏 Basil and many other plants can be harvested in a way that actually makes them grow better, rather than depleting the plant. If you use this technique it will allow your plants to bush out, giving you a much better crop in the long run. Once your basil is of a decent size (or the size you bought it in the supermarket) you should be able to locate little side shoots along the stem. If you snip just above these it will allow these side shoots to continue to grow, turning that one stem into two. You can keep repeating this process until your little plant has grown into a strong bush, with plenty of leaves that you can harvest for your home cooking! I hope you are all having a fantastic week and I love you all, Joe 🌱😊💚 #basil #harvest #zerowaste #organic #gardentips #nature #gardening #Sustainability #ecotips

Today we are back and I am showing you how to use old newspapers and turn them into eco friendly, handy seed starting pots, that only take a few minutes to make. 📣 ANNOUNCEMENT : My new book, Garden To Save The World is now available for pre order. I go into far more detail about topics such as this, there is even a whole chapter dedicated to to upcycling 😊💚 I’ve poured everything I’ve got into this book, it’s available across the world via the link in my channel description 🙏 thank you 😊 I often pick up a free newspaper on my commute, but unfortunately these often end up in the bin (as anyone who has walked past a train station bin knows)! This is a real shame as they have so many uses in the garden, including these home made eco friendly pots 😊🌱 Newspapers can often be an important component of home made compost, as it will break down adding carbon to your soil. I understand some people will be concerned about the ink! A lot of prints use vegetable based ink these days anyway, and if not maybe just avoid using heavily coloured pages and you will be fine 😊🌱 Unless you get seriously carried away with watering, these pots are actually surprisingly tough, but be warned, excessive watering will cause them to rip! These pots have the added benefit of just being able to be planted out directly in the soil, which will avoid any trauma to the root during the transplanting process. These pots will just decompose into the soil as the roots start to tear through! I hope you have all had a lovely week, and I really do love and appreciate you all, your support is incredible 😊🙏, Joe 💚💚 #harvest #zerowaste #organic #gardentips #nature #gardening #Sustainability #ecotips

Today we are back and I am showing you one of my top tips when it comes to watering your potted or container plants. 📣 Announcement: My brand new book Garden To Save The World is out next week and is available to pre order by following the link in my channel bio. I’ve included all of my top gardening and plant tips and tricks, as well as recipes, preserving, nature and wildlife advice. Thank you so much for every single pre order! I really do appreciate every single one, as pre orders are so important for new books 😊🌱💚 Watering your potted plants from the top like this while we all do it, might not be the best idea. Plastic, wooden and metal containers will all have a gap between the soil and the side of the pot. When you water, it will travel through the path of least resistance, which is often this gap down the side of the pot, and out the drainage holes in the bottom. This can leave the middle part of the soil bone dry, especially with cheap compost mixes. Instead try sitting your pots and containers in a large tray of water. (The bowl in the video was more for show, I use a large tray where I can place 10 or more pots in at a time). The soil will absorb up the water making sure it gets to the plants roots. For large containers this isn’t possible, so simply bury a smaller pot in the middle and water into this. That will make sure the water is delivered to the middle of the soil helping to prevent a lot from running down the side of the pot. (If you are using fibre or natural cloth pots then you don’t need to worry about water running down the sides) Obviously you can water from the top (I often do myself) it is just important to make sure the water has penetrated down into the soil before moving on, this method is ideal for people who may only have a few plants 😊🌱 I hope you are all having a lovely week so far, and I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚 #watering #ecotips #zerowaste #Sustainability #gardening #gardeningtips

Today we are back, and I am showing you how to grow unlimited tomatoes, from just one cheap tomato plant. 📣Announcement, my new book Garden To Save The World is released tomorrow, and is currently available to pre order with a discount by following the link on my channel. I really hope this book will be a great help, to aid you on your gardening journey, regardless of how much space or experience you have! 💚🙏 This technique is super simple and will guarantee you get the exact same variety tomatoes as the mother plant. Plus it’s great if you don’t have room or time to start loads of seeds 😊🌱 This time of the year you can buy loads of tomato plants, but you can get away with only buying one or two. Anyone can use this method, as honestly it’s super simple to do. Simply pot out your tomato plant and soon it will grow. You will notice side shoots or suckers (as they are sometimes called)forming. These can be found between the main stem and a side branch. They need to be removed, to give your plant the best chance for a bumper harvest, but make sure you keep them. By propagating them in fresh water you can grow roots, from these otherwise discarded plants. Then by potting these cuttings in good soil, you can grow an exact clone of the mother plant. This is far quicker than starting from seed, however you will need a nice long summer, and to have a tomato plant that was started early in the season to take cuttings from. Otherwise you might run out of time to grow the cuttings before the summer ends. Please note this will only work for vining or indeterminate tomato varieties 😊🌱🍅 I hope you are all having a great week so far, I love you all! Today we are back and I am showing you a few of my top plant tips, that might make your life a whole lot easier this spring! 📣 ANNOUNCEMENT: My debut book garden to save the world is now available to preorder by following the link in my channel description. I couldn’t be more excited. I wanted to write this book so together we can explore how gardening and growing the most amazing food can be achieved by everyone, regardless of where you live! For me it is more than just growing food and flowers, it’s embracing nature, living a greener happier lifestyle and understanding the benefits this amazing hobby has to offer. I have packed this book full of my top tips and tricks for plant care, growing food, recipes and preserving, wildlife and nature, making the most of your available space and my garden money saving advice. 💚🌱 This time of the year our gardens are starting to spring to life so I thought now is a great time to share some of my top tips. Containers are a great way to grow plants, but often they will need to be repotted. By pushing the old pot down into the new one you can get a perfect size space to repot the old plant. When it comes to watering, often when we water our containers the water will choose the path of least resistance and flow down the sides and out the bottom. To help avoid this try watering your smaller pots by placing them in trays of water and letting the soil absorb it up. (The bowl in the video was for visuals, it’s far easier to place all your pots onto a large tray 😊🌱) If you have a large pot try burying a smaller one with drainage holes in the middle, and water into this, which will help deliver the water directly to the plants roots. I hope you are all having a lovely week, and I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚 #planttips #gardentips #zerowaste #gardening #ecotips #harvest #Sustainability #watering

Today we are back and I am showing you how you can use your food at home to grow even more food for free. 📣Announcement, my new book Garden To Save The World, comes out in 3 days time, and is available to pre order by following the link in my bio. Thank you so much for your pre orders as they mean so much to new books. The book is also currently discounted on Amazon 🌱💚 Food prices are getting higher and higher each day, so why not try to grow your own. There are certain foods that can even be grown by simply replaying the old scraps and letting them regrow. It is worth noting that some scraps when regrown will not really be edible, a great example of this is lettuce and carrots. While you can regrow both by planting the ends, for lettuce you will grow a sour bolted lettuce that in my opinion is not tasty, and for carrots you will grow the foliage not the root. Another really cool food you can grow from scraps is pineapple, but in cooler climates like mine you will need a heated greenhouse and a grow light. Growing food from scraps might not solve world hunger, but it is actually quite fun and it does work really well. If you have kids it’s a great way to get them interested too as it’s all a very quick and visual process. I hope you all had a great start to your week, and thank you so much for watching! I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚 #foodscraps #zerowaste #Sustainability #ecotips #gardentips #growyourown

Today we are back and I am sharing with you one of my favourite ways to water my plants on autopilot. It is so quick, easy and cheap to set up and can save you a lot of time with your summer watering. 📣Announcement: I have included lots more information and quick tips about growing food, flowers, using and preserving your food, wildlife and using any size space to its full potential in my brand new book Garden To Save The World, which is available to pre order now by following the link in my channel bio 🌱💚 Thank you so much for everyone who has pre ordered, it means the world to me and is so important for new books 😊 I love watering my plants, it is one of the most peaceful moments of my day, however, life can get busy and in the summer our plants can require a lot of water. That’s why I am always looking for ways to help speed up this process. This ancient watering technique has been used for years and it really simple and effective. Due to the porous nature of terracotta, the water slowly seeps out the pot into any surrounding soil. I’ve found roughly a 5 litre pot can water an area nearly a meter square (obviously depending on the soil and moisture levels). However, there are a few things to keep an eye on. Please don’t buy those glazed terracotta pots as this will not work with those. It is also important to make sure the top is covered. Not only will this help reduce evaporation, but will stop mosquitoes as well as other small animals falling in. I hope you are all having a lovely week so far, and I love you all, Joe 😊🌱🤣 #watering #plants #gardening #gardentips #zerowaste #Sustainability #ecotips

Today we are back and I am showing you a quick tip to make the most of your chives or some other perennial herb plants from the shops. 📣 Announcement: I go into lots more detail about plants, gardening, using and preserving crops and using your garden to its full potential in my brand new book Garden To Save The World. It is available to pre order now by following the link on my channel. Thank you so much for all the pre orders, they mean the world to me and are super important for new books😊🌱💚 Many perennial herbs such as chives are sold in clusters, and this means you can get way more than you bargained for. Perennials can be divided into smaller bunches and then replanted around the garden, meaning you can usually get three or four plants for the price of one. However it doesn’t stop there! You can keep doing this year after year! I’ve been dividing my chives for 4 years now and it means I have more chive plants than I know what to do with, all from a £2 plant from the shops. Chives can grow little purple flowers, please don’t remove these as not only are they edible but they are a real favourite with bees and other pollinators this time of the year 😊🌱. I personally like to use them to make infused vinegar ☺️ I hope you are all having a lovely weekend, and I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚 #herbs #zerowaste #planttips #gardentips #ecotips #Sustainability #gardening

Today we are back and I am showing you how I get my seeds started early, to get a head start on the growing season, giving me an earlier harvest and bloom. 📣 Announcement: I have included lots more plant and garden tips in my new book Garden To Save The World, which is available to pre order now, by following the link in my bio. This book aims to help you have the garden of your dreams, regardless of the space available, all in a budget and wildlife friendly way. Thank you all so much for an amazing response, and all your pre orders 😊🌱💚 Starting seeds is such a fun and exciting time of the year and it can save you a lot of money. A plug tray of 10 lettuce plants can cost £4 whereas you can buy a packet of them 1000 lettuce seeds for half that price. While starting seeds is easy, there are a few things you can do to make your life easier! In this video we explore four of my favourites, such as rehydrating large seeds, making DIY propagators and using easy heaters to keep your seedlings warm. Please remember to keep your seeds as warm as possible and offer your seedlings as much sunlight as possible once they germinate to prevent leggy growth! When making the DIY heater it is important to only use it in a ventilated space or greenhouse! Please be careful about any fire risks and never use it indoors. It gives out a surprising amount of heat, but if you need more you can use two candles under a larger pot. Just be careful the next morning as the pot can be very hot! I hope you are all having a lovely week and I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚 #seeds #zerowaste #gardentips #ecotips #Sustainability #gardening

Today we are back and I am showing you a simple zero waste recipe using the off cuts of your carrots or radishes. You can use this for many more veggie off cuts too. 📣 Announcement, I have included lots more zero waste recipes and upcycling ideas to help reduce waste and save money, in my brand new book Garden To Save The World, which is out now. You can order your copy by following the link in my channel description. Thank you so much for your support, the response to the book has been truly amazing, and I appreciate every single order! 😊💚 Using off cuts and veggie scraps is one of my favourite things to do, as it not only saves waste but also saves money too! There are so many amazing ways to use these scraps, but pesto has to be one of my favourites! It is super easy, taste delicious and is so versatile to use! I’ve made it from carrots and radish here, but you can get creative and use a range of leafy greens instead. It is worth noting I’m using home grown crops which I know have no nasty sprays or chemicals on. I always recommend using organic or home grown where possible for zero waste cooking. If you can’t grow your own, organic farmers markets are a great option. I hope you are all having a lovely day, and I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚 #pesto #zerowaste #ecotips #Sustainability #gardentips #plantbased

Today we are back and I am showing you one of my top plant picks for your garden this summer. When you are sowing your seeds or buying plug plants this month, maybe think about giving nasturtiums a try. 📣 Announcement: I have included lots more information about gardening, plants and wildlife, as well as how to use any size space to its full potential in my brand new book Garden To Save The World, which is available to pre order now by following the link in my channel bio 🌱💚 Thank you so much to everyone who has pre ordered, it means the world to me and is so important to new books 😊 Nasturtiums for me are one of the ultimate garden plants. They come in a range of varieties and are all stunning! Super easy to grow, brilliant at filling gaps, with a long growing season, they have a place in all gardens. Not only are they stunning but they are 100% edible. The leaves, the flowers and even the seed pods are fantastic when added to your cooking, especially salads! I think the flavour is similar to that of rocket, just with a bit more of a peppery punch! They also help to keep unwanted garden visitors away from your prized crops, so can be planted as a sacrificial plant. They are fast growers so will often outgrow any potential damage caused but slugs and the like. I hope you are all having a lovely week so far, and I love you all! Today we are back and I am showing you my quick tip to make a quick and easy DIY patio and pathway weed killer. 📣Announcement, I’m thrilled to say my new book Garden To Save The World Is out now, and is even discounted on Amazon! I’ve included lots of tips and tricks to help you, grow, use and store your own food, as well as maximising your available space to its full potential. You can order your discounted copy by following the link in my bio, thank you so much for all your amazing support 💚🌱 Now I’m a big fan of weeds, which might sound strange in a weed removal video, but some places in the garden they can be a nuisance. Places such as my patios and pathways, are great examples. I’m a big advocate of using dandelions and nettles (plus many many more), but I like to leave certain areas of the garden for them to grow. If you decide to make this mixture, I would like to add a few points. Please avoid spraying it anywhere near water, soil or anywhere that isn’t a patio or pathway. It is a very effective solution and will kill your plants, as well as alter your soil chemistry, which is a big no no. Also please make sure you are not using it near any wildlife or pets. It’s a good idea to use a vinegar no stronger than 5% too, if you have stronger you can dilute it with water. As with most sprays please avoid using it on windy days to avoid any accidental damage. This one works the best on a hot sunny day so please keep that in mind too. I hope you are having a great week and I love you all, Joe 🌱💚😊 #DIY #gardentips #zerowaste #Sustainability #ecotips #gardening
