Don’t just say yes. Say, “can you do me a favor?” Or “can you help me train them?” Then walk them through what you want them to do or not do. I do this all the time with my clients, it’s a great way to have control and create a routine for greetings. #puppytrainingtips #puppytraining101 #goldenpuppies #dogtrainingtips Does your dog struggle with over excited greetings?

Love em or hate em, e collars are amazing training tools when used correctly. With just one meaningful, well timed and appropriate correction, we can stop an aggressive dog AND cause them to THINK and make a BETTER decision. This and continued better decisions will yield positive feedback from the owner; petting, playing, attention, affection and food. #ecollartraining #ecollar #ecollartechnologies #reactivedog #dogreactivity #aggressivedog #dogaggression #dogrehab #bullterriers

You can’t throw treats at everything. Some dogs are just born fighters with a tenacious personality. It’s who they are. And if you are not ready to handle them accordingly and be more confident, persistent and firm than they are, you will have problems. As easy as it is to put dogs in a box based on their breed, I can tell you first hand that while there are breed tendencies, it boils down to the personality of each individual dog. I’ve met golden retrievers that were intense and aggressive as young puppies and Belgian Malinois that were calm, gentle and harmless from the day they were born. If you can learn to treat each dog according to who they are and what they need, you’ll always have balance in your relationship with them. #dogpsychology #dogbehavior #DogBehaviorModification #balanceddogtrainer #balanceddogtraining #ffdogtraining #packleader #packleadership

Just because you didn’t see the warning, doesn’t mean it wasn’t given. I haven’t met a dog yet that didn’t indicate they were going to bite. The more you pay attention to things, the more you see them. Freezing and whale eye are two subtle signs a dog may bite. And when I say subtle, I mean for you, or the average person. It’s actually very obvious once you know what you’re looking at. It’s kind of like the calm before the storm. An energy shift. A creepy feeling. Tension. But you’ve got to pay attention. #dogbodylanguage #aggressivedog #resourceguarding #dogpsychology #dogbehavior

A few things to remember when training: ✅ Every dog owner should learn to effectively use and communicate with leash pressure! ✅ Pet, praise, reward your dog for doing the right thing. ✅ Walk them through the process —show them what you want and gradually add difficulty ✅ Be consistent with rules and boundaries ✅ Have realistic expectations. I could go on…. Did I miss anything? Tell me in the comments 👇🏽 #dogtraining101 #DogTraining #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainer #balanceddogtraining #balanceddogtrainer #rescuedog #dogbehavior

It’s important to focus on and reward good/wanted behavior. Behaviors that are rewarded are more likely to continue 💯 It’s easy to get caught up in paying attention to and correcting “bad” or unwanted behaviors. Ut don’t let your training become one sided 👎🏽 I always encourage my clients to focus on and pay attention to what they want from their dogs. 🙌🏽 90% of training should focus on what you want, even if you had to lead with corrections, overlay them with rewards for what you want. Perfect example of what NOT to do. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but 👇🏽 🗣️ YOUR DOG DOES NOT NEED TO MEET OTHER DOGS. 🗣️ THEY WILL BE JUST FINE WITHOUT THE INTERACTION 🗣️ ITS OKAY TO SAY NO 🗣️ MOST PEOPLE DONT KNOW SH#T ABOUT THEIR DOGS BEHAVIOR 🗣️ “FRIENDLY” WELL-INTENDED PUSHY/OVER EXCITED DOGS CAUSE FIGHTS And for the record, that dog WAS NOT friendly, he was a bully and trying to DOMINATE the other dog. A great example of how people think pushy, over the top dogs are friendly when really they’re assholes. #aggressivedog #nervousdog #dogpsychology #dogbodylanguage #dogbehavior #dogbehaviour #dogsmeeting #dogintroduction Would you let your dog meet like this?👇🏽

It’s the little things that can make training easier and more fluid. For those that use food in training, rewarding from the opposite side is the number one reason for dogs cutting in front. 🤯 Don’t correct the dog with behavior like THIS?? Not yet. For a dog like Max who is very food motivated and also very nervous and who has never been given ANY DIRECTION —leading with corrections is NOT the best approach. In many cases, with dogs like him, they have already been yelled at, scolded, hit and punished, but with no clear understanding of WHY or what to do instead. Instead our initial plan is to lay out very clearly what we want from him while making positive associations with his triggers. Then, AFTER we have given him clear direction as to what he should be doing and making it rewarding, we can add appropriate corrections (depending on the situation) to help clarify even further as to what he SHOULD NOT be doing. Dog training is an art and one of my favorite parts about it is finding the best approach for the dog and for the owner. Do you have a dog like Max?? Tell me about them in the comments. #dogpsychology #dogobedience #dogtrainer #dogtraining101 #dogbehavior #dogbehaviour #minischnauzer #rescuedog #rescuedogofig Do you think we should lead with a correction or positive reinforcement? 👇🏽

This #dogtrainingtip is specific to when you’re walking with your dog. I’m not saying that it’s wrong or bad for your dog to down in front of you, generally. However, it is very impractical to have your dog cut in front of you when you’re walking with them at your side. 👉🏽The reason you don’t want to correct or punish the “ugly” down, is because down is actually a wanted behavior and it will confuse your dog and they may hesitate to give you a down. 👉🏽Good leash handling, ignoring the “ugly” downs, and specifically rewarding the “good” downs is the best and most effective way to deal with the issue. Happy training ✌🏽 #mastifmix #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingadvice #dogobedience #dogbehavior #balanceddogtraining #balanceddogtrainer Does your dog cut in front of you on walks? 👇🏽

I’ve had a lot of scares with dogs while training, but I’ve never actually had to do something like the doggie heimlich (that wasn’t exactly the official way —but it worked 🙏🏽) What do you think of my reaction and technique?? #puppytraining #closecalls #puppy #goldenpuppys Have you ever had to help a dog that was choking?

From ridiculous pulling and zero attention, to calmly walking and awareness of the owner —all within minutes from the proper use and application of the prong collar —where just the right amount of pressure was used to communicate clearly and effectively without over correcting and causing unnecessary stress on the dog. A dog like Toby needs boundaries more than anything else. In this session, we only focused on leash handling, no food was used. Two main reasons why. 1. He wasn’t that interested in food. 2. The owner needed to be taught how to physically handle the dog, not lure and reward the dog. While I love using food in training, ultimately teaching people how to physically control, guide and manage their dog on a leash is more important and beneficial to them and their dogs in the long run. We can always (and will) add the food rewards later to reinforce and encourage more wanted behavior. #dogbehavior #dogpsychology #dogbehaviour #dogobedience #balanceddogtrainer #looseleash #dogwalking #dogtrainer

Nothing changes if nothing changes. No, your dog won’t just stop doing something that they enjoy doing. That’s not how it works. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a client tell me how they want their dog to stop doing something but then they laugh, giggle and smile when the dog does it. Make up your mind! Either you’re OK with it or you’re not. If you’re OK with things happening within certain contexts and situations, then you need to be more specific and communicate that with your dog correctly and clearly. #DogProblems #DogTraining1Oh1 #DogTrainingTips #dobermanpuppy #dobermanpuppies #DogPsychology

Never in a MILLION YEARS would I ever punish this dog or any dog for their actions in a situation like this. This type of “aggressive” behavior is absolutely the fault of the adult who is ignorant to, or who willfully ignored the dogs MULTIPLE signals. This is 1000% avoidable and a common occurrence between children and dogs. Unfortunately, the dog always gets the blame, when the one to blame is the adult in charge. How many signs did the dog show he was not comfortable and wanted space??? 1️⃣ Tongue flick 2️⃣ Whale eye 3️⃣ Pinned ears 4️⃣ Tight mouth 5️⃣ Stiff body 6️⃣ Pulling away 7️⃣ Avoiding 8️⃣ Biting Did I miss any? What are your thoughts? Should the dog be punished in a situation like this?? 👇🏽 #DogTraining #dogpsychology #dogaggression #dogtips #dogbehavior #dogbehaviour #dogbodylanguage #balanceddogtraining

Aside from just getting your dog to turn around, one of the biggest issues with recall is that the dog will just run by you or do what I call a “tag and go” where they get within about 3 to 5 feet of you and then turn around and run back to where they came from. These issues can be resolved very easily with a long line and good leash handling. Back up and reel in the leash as your dog starts to come to you. Just make sure you are not pulling them the entire way, and only provide leash guidance when get off track I hope this helps you have a better recall with your dog. Happy training. #dogtrainingtips #DogTrainingAdvice #DogObedience, #DogObedienceTraining #OffLeashDogs #BalanceDogTraining Do you struggle with the recall? 👇🏽

Perfect example of “if it’s not a problem, don’t worry about it” Often times, people ask me if certain things their dog does is OK or not. My answer is us usually dependent upon; the way the client feels about the behavior, the way the behavior affects the relationship (if at all), and if the behavior is the cause of or related to some other unwanted behavior. If they’re okay with it and it’s not something to be concerned about, rock on. Side note, this is hilarious and I would love to next to this dog for dinner. #invitemetodinner #funnydog #dogstuff #balanceddogtraining #balanceddogtrainer #dogobedience #dogbehavior #funnydogbehavior
