Urdu is my first language but being born and raised in the U.S and speaking only English at school/work caused me to have an American accent even when speaking Urdu. Urdu is my first language and something I am so proud of! I can fluently understand and speak it! But… Sometimes I get tongue tied when code-switching and stumble to find or say a word correctly in both Urdu and English. It happens more often when speaking Urdu and I always feel so embarrassed by it. Especially when i say certain words with more of an Amercian accent and American words with an Urdu accent. I speak to our Son mainly in urdu all day and here are some clips I honestly feel uncomfortable sharing because of comments regarding having an accent.
