If you want to dominate at the breakdown you have work on your strength and mobility in those positions as well as your on field training. Most people jump straight to on field training for the breakdown in rugby. If you can’t achieve the body positions you need or you’re not strong in those positions you will be limiting the impact you can have at the breakdown. Regress a little and work on these 3 key mobility drills to ensure you can get in good positions. Power Endurance 🔥🚀⚡️💥 Save this session 👇 After a full warm up: As a circuit: 1. Burpee into Sled Push 2. Sled Pull 3. Ski Erg (or any Erg - Row, bike etc) 4. Shuttle Runs 5. Heavy KB Carry (mix them up each round) 6. Box Jumps 7. Slam Balls 8. Shuttle Runs - 3-5 circuits in total - 2 minutes rest between circuits - Max Effort for all stations Round 1: 10 seconds work / 20 seconds rest Round 2: 15 seconds work / 30 seconds rest Round 3: (Repeat Round 1) Round 4: (Repeat Round 2) Round 5: (Repeat Round 1) The beauty of this session is you don’t have to tinker with the timings. Just aim to increase your amount of work per station. If you’re not blowing, you’re not working hard enough. I’ve seen many grown men throw up after these sessions! At a recent event with @FirstPoint USA we had a Q&A session with some of their athletes. I was asked about my favourite players to play with and Owen Farrell is an absolute stand out. People handle the pressure of big games differently. Some go into their own head space, some have extreme nerves, Owen just portrays absolute confidence. Seeing someone like that in the changing room before a Lions test match allows the rest of the room to feed off of that confidence. A stand out for me both on and off the pitch!
