Caitie’s Foster Fam

This poor mama gave birth this weekend alone, on the streets, in the pouring rain. She sought out shelter anywhere she could, and she found her way into a shop. When the workers got there this morning, they saw her with her newborns. They made a space for her to rest with her babies while they reached out to rescues. That’s when I heard about her and rushed that way. The eight surviving puppies are hanging in there. They’re active and nursing. But they were cold and covered in fleas when I got them. We are fighting an uphill battle for sure. There are 5 boys and 3 girls. The smallest girl is about half the size of her littermates and appears much weaker. I’ll continue to give her the best chance, but odds aren’t on her side. It’s going to be tough for all of these babies, but their mama has fought so hard for their survival. Shamrock was originally estimated to be a younger girl, but the more they were able to look at her and her condition, they more they said she’s likely an older girl and closer to 8 years old. Those 8 years must not have been kind to her. She has a long way to go, but we will be beside her every step. #CFFshamrock #caitiesfosterfam

Searching for anywhere that felt safe enough to care for her newborns while in labor. My heart breaks for what this mama went through. But she’s safe now. And I’m here to help her with her babies. Back in February, we were alerted to a French Bulldog, Roux, who was surrendered for a vet hospital in horrific condition. She was emaciated and barely hanging on. We agreed to take on her case regardless of how expensive and hopeless it felt. No matter how hard we tried and the vet staff tried, we still lost her. We found her too late. We don’t regret trying. She deserved to know that she mattered. And she deserved to know love. But it was heartbreaking just the same. We posted photos with captions updating her loss, but we realized that many might have missed it, so we wanted to update here for all as well. Mama Bentley the Basset and her babies are doing amazing. And we will continue to save them and many others in honor of Roux.

Happening now: I was at school teaching my morning class when I got a message about a stray Basset giving birth at a shop over the weekend. When they came in this morning, they saw her with newborn puppies and reached out to rescues for help. The shop was just around the corner from my campus, so I went and scooped them up. Mama is in horrific condition. I can barely see her eyes, she’s covered in dirt and fleas and is so hungry. She had 11 babies and 3 were no longer alive when the shop workers found them all. So mama and 8 surviving babies are now with me. Spay and neuter your dogs, y‘all. My heart breaks that this poor girl was alone all weekend in labor and just trying to survive for her and her puppies. It’ll be an uphill battle for these newborns since they were born in unsafe conditions and are covered in fleas, too. But they’re all safe now, and I’ll do my best. Follow along for their journeys!

Heidi is just a puppy and has her whole life ahead of her. Unfortunately, she was born with a smaller, nonfunctional left front leg. She is getting around okay, but she also tries to use it at times which forces her posture forward and can cause issues as she grows. Therefore, she is having that leg amputated along with a surgery for the hematoma on her ear. We love her just how she is, and she is perfect three legs and all! This trend but with a rescue dog looking for an adopter! Malibu was found with a large mass on her chest and others scattered around her body. We got the best news after surgery to remove them that all masses were benign! She is an older, calmer gal who loves everyone she has met. She will happily sleep by you all day or play with other dogs if they’d like, too. She thrives with a friend who helps her stay a little more active. She loves her toy babies and to cuddle. She’s an all around amazing girl who is ready to find a home! She is located in Houston, TX, but transport can be arranged for the right home. EMERGENCY INTAKE: This sweet pup is arriving at the vet under my nonprofit rescue right now! Struggled walking, can barely see, had to be carried to the car. His little fall at the end kills me. Dogs are so extremely resilient that it is mind-blowing. Imagine being hit by a train, losing your foot, having head trauma, and still just hanging in there like a trooper. I can’t get over how strong Juggernaut is. Yesterday, Juggs transported to the surgeon’s hospital. Today, they updated that he is hanging in there and doing as well as can be expected. He is in a lot of pain even with being heavily medicated. He’s a little nervous about human touch, but we can’t blame him at all. Life is scary right now for this sweet boy. As long as he remains stable enough, he will have the damaged leg amputated today. I continue to only share the censored photos, but the trauma was awful and his poor leg is beyond repair.
