Ok, so this is by far one of the wildest stories I ever came across. And I used to be addicted to scammer shows, so I have my share of crazy scam stories. That also means I personally know how to spot ppl like Megan from miles away. But when she abruptly entered my husbands reality, he was an easy target, as my husband, as a Canadian, tends to be a bit too nice sometimes and generally believes in the good of ppl. They don't just call ppl like her scam artists for nothing. Megan is truly an artist at her chosen trade, giving attention to the smalleest of details. But let’s take a few steps back. Megan entered our live a few weeks ago. She pretended shes buying a house on our street and befriended the neighbor, Amy, who happened to be my husband’s friend. She introduced herself as a new millionaire (her words) after selling her alleged company, Perfrm Sales, to Salesforce. She said she needed a place to stay. Amy, also very trusting, gave Megan her spare car to use and connected her to my husband, who offered her all the open dates in our airbnbs. After she sent him a few fake screenshots of a msg error she’s been getting when trying to book through the app, he gave her the green light to check in and pay him via a transfer or cash. In his mind, she’s a successful entrepreneur, about to become a new neighbor. Ofcourse he can trust her. She racked up a bill of a few thousands dollars and was not paying, all while spicing up her communication with him with all her crazy sob stories. The day after she came to my store he told me about the chain of events, and the writing was very clear on the wall. This woman was not only scamming him, but she was a master at her trade. Which made me believe this is just the tip of an iceberg. So I started digging. And the more I dug, the crazier the stories that surfaced. I immediately contacted Amy and told her to get her car back. I contacted the home owner to warn him. The day after, the deal fell through. He discovered she forgered all the papers. I kept digging. I was able to get in touch with her family, who disclosed she’s been doing this since she’s 19 (she’s 40yo), to them as well, when she stole her dad’s checkbook. Numerous ppl as well as companies that she previously played a number on started resurfacing. Most of them were happy to share their stories with me. But one thing in common was that most of them wanted to stay anonymous, if for fear of her personally or for fear of getting dragged in the mud. But this is way bigger then what she did to my husband, to Amy and to Dan, the homeowner. This exactly why she was able to get away with her actions for two decades. She continues and will continue to harm others. And while I understand their concerns, and I actually do feel very sad for her, at the same time, the thought of her walking around society, deliberately harming innocent ppl, hard working trusting individuals and companies, deeply bothers me. A few asked me if I really want to get myself involved in this. And the answer is absolutely yes. Or she will just continue harming others. And… scamming ppl is just not not nice.
