Propagate pilea peperomioides ⬇️ These are SO EASY to propagate. In the first example you’ll see there are already roots, so we’re basically just transplanting vs propagating but you get the idea 😉 Be sure to cut below the soil line to get some roots. The babies form off the main stem of the mother plant under the soil and emerge to become another plant. There’s no need to let the cutting callus over in either situation. DO fertilize both. They’ll grow so quick! Bright light is key, as always - for a successful propagation. For the second way - top cutting - roots will form all along the stem. You can absolutely root in water and even keep it in water or perlite indefinitely. These are great plants to grow hydroponically or in semi hydro like leca, pon, perlite etc. This is a variegated pilea peperomioides if you thought it looked a little different 🤗 I love it and it’s growing like a weed now that I have it under a 10w sansi bulb. These prefer 1000fc daily average for optimal growth so if your pilea is looking a little pale/leggy/droopy try adding a grow light or getting it in a bright south facing window. Mix up a batch of this DIY soil mix for whenever the repotting bug strikes this spring! Use equal-ish parts of each! I don’t measure, obviously 😅 I prefer to use a different perlite that’s slightly more chunky & less dusty but this is all I could find last minute! There have been SO many times I’ve been in the middle of repotting and realized I didn’t have enough soil so now I always keep a batch of this on hand! It’s great for a wide variety of plants (indoor + out!) and you can always add more amendments to spice it up - some of my favorite additions are horticultural charcoal, pumice, & beneficial microbes! I store it in a container with a lid to prevent fungus gnats from taking up residence & open the lid weekly to air it out. STRING OF PEARLS CARE ⬇️ Share this with someone that struggles with string of pearls! My best advice for LONG string of pearls is in the watering! But first — DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT repot immediately after purchase or mess with the roots of this plant in any way. Light is also key, but I’ve found they do well in east, west or south unobstructed windows. ☀️⛅️ When it comes to watering I do things a little differently. •Soak the plant deeply when the soil is dry all the way down •In between deep soaks saturate the top inch of soil I’ve found this method works best, especially if it’s in a soil that’s a little on the dense side. The soil at the bottom of the pot takes longer to dry, but the shallow delicate root system will shrivel and die at the top of the pot if you wait until all the soil is dry. If you do have to repot for whatever reason I recommend a shallow terracotta pot. General string of pearl info: It’s normal for the strands to feel like velcro. These are a ground cover and the microscopic barbs on the vines help it stay in place (also makes them a nightmare to untangle!) They can be susceptible to mealybugs and aphids, so watch for those! Fertilize with foliage pro every time you do your deep water. A chunky mix is preferred but again if you water correctly and have it in good light it shouldn’t matter much. I’ve had this plant for 8+ years. It started out in a 4” pot and I’ve sized up only twice in that time. Here’s an easy and stunning way to display your plants 🤩 I love the look of a potless plant. These are so easy to make but also look like it’d be difficult to! Truly turning your plant into a piece of wall art. This is a philodendron paraiso verde — but any climbing plant will work! The space where the roots are doesn’t need to be too large because the plant will put roots into the moss in the pole as it grows. I use smoothie cups for the planter and funnel & they are the perfect fit.
