This project is completed at the high school level by ceramics 1 students who are learning sculptural and surface design techniques all quarter. The finished sculptures are gifted back to the 2nd grade students who drew the original monster and it can honestly be hard for some of my students to let go of their 3D creations but ultimately they understand that it's all for the younger kids! Here is the rest of this first group of creature monsters drawn by 2nd grade artists, turned into sculptures made by my high school ceramics students. I've been the artist behind SAJ Ceramic since I was 18 (which, omg, has been 16 years), and working in a legitimate above ground studio that I can share with visitors & students has been the dream the entire time!! As a teacher, I've found that much like aging, there's nothing that can be done to stop the inevitable transformation into "old and cringey" in my student's eyes. Good news, the level of "perceived cringe" is adversely connected to the level at which I seem to care about it and that's been working out for me just fine. #teacher #cringe #highschool
