I’m about to get REALLY personal with y’all, so buckle up! 👀 #ad I’m excited to partner with @NOCD to help spread awareness about OCD. After suffering in silence for 20 years, I’m ready to share my story. A lot of people think OCD is a desire to be very neat or tidy. I mean, how many times have you heard someone jokingly say “haha I’m SO ocd!” about liking things a certain way? But in reality, OCD comes in many forms and can be truly debilitating. To be super vulnerable here, the past several months have been really hard and scary for me as I’ve struggled with my mental health. For me personally, while I do have some contamination OCD, I mostly struggle with health OCD. That means, I am hyper aware of sensations in my body and interpret nearly everything as a threat. If I hear of or read about a health condition, I fear I have it. I Google and go to doctors seeking reassurance only to find that the reassurance doesn’t last long before my brain finds another health risk to worry about. It’s been so bad that I’ve had trouble even leaving my house some days. It’s really thrown a wrench in my career and personal life, both of which typically involve traveling! And to be even more honest, I didn’t realize until very recently just how bad my OCD had gotten. When I felt desperate to get help, I quickly found there weren’t really any specialists in my area. Fortunately, NOCD exists. NOCD offers virtual ERP therapy with licensed therapists all over the country. They offer inclusive treatment and they also have a support group within their app so you can have access to other folks who know just what you’re going through. Community is SUPER important when it comes to healing.
