Orchid are epiphytes. They grow on top of other plants and are not anchored in the soil. Epiphytes take up their nutrients from water, air, and debris around them. Living in Indiana, fall and winter temperatures get less than 55 degrees consistently which would prevent us from being able to anchor orchids or other plants to trees so this will just have to do. When choosing a board, choose one that is rot resistant. I used cork bark since it doesn’t rot but it’s also very easy to make holes in. It’s fairly plyable. Hang in a spot that will get light, water the moss when it’s almost dry, and you can incorporate liquid orchid fertilizer in the water when blooms fall off. Now we can live our orchid hanging dreams… inside 🌸#plantmounting #orchidlovers #plantstyling

More care tips here ⬇️ Aloes are those plants that will love the neglect! I live in Indiana, where the winters are below freezing so I can’t keep her outside all year round unfortunately but I make it work! Water 💦: I water when the leaves are a bit more moldable and the soil is bone dry. She can go long periods without water. Soil mix: my typical succulent mix is a combo of half succulent/cactus potting soil and half bonsai jack gravel. 💡indoors: If it’s growing too long and leggy, that tells you it’s not getting enough light. She can sit right underneath a grow light or your brightest window (at least 750 foot candles if measuring with a light meter) for at least four to six hours of direct sunlight a day. Outdoors, she lives a space that gets direct sunlight for 2 hours a day but shade the rest of the time. Aloe can absolutely get sunburned and if they ever become stressed, they turn gray! They can turn back to green once they’re adjusted but something to be mindful of. Selaginella lepiophylla aka the false rose of Jericho or the dinosaur plant, is one of a kind! Add a shallow amount of distilled water to a bowl and watch it come to life. They do enjoy sunlight to grow so keep it near a window (no direct sun or it can burn the fronds) and prune back any yellowing fronds as it grows to maintain it. Once a month, let it dry out completely to avoid rot and if you no longer want to have it out, you can let it dehydrate and roll back up. This process of drying and watering can be done for up to 7 years! #roseofjericho #coolplants #plantcollection

Just because it has no blooms, doesn’t mean it’s trash! 🥲 You’ll find many phalaenopsis orchids discounted once the blooms fall. It’s a perfect opportunity to give them a refresh and get them back to their full potential. When the blooms have died off, you can incorporate orchid fertilizer into the watering. These lived in front of a north facing window and I watered when roots were silvery instead of green. If you found this helpful, consider following along for more plant care and plant projects. Replying to @Powder Moving wasn’t an option yet so the big chop had to happen. Air layering is a method of propagating stems still attached to the mother plant. A cutting of this size could take a longer time to root or you may find you’ll lose leaves while the cutting is trying to grow new roots. You could chose to score the node before adding the moss (it may take faster to rooting) but I decided to leave as is and it was a success! Taking this cutting, I will be adding it back to itself once I repot so the monstera can live its best bushy life with the rest of its family. Next video will be repotting this baby and follow along for more plant care and plant projects. Leave any questions down below! #airlayering #monsteradeliciosa #monsterapropagation

Replying to @nat✨✨ More care info here ⬇️: 🍂Soil mix: 25% indoor potting soil- whatever is accessible to you! 25 % coco chips- it comes in a brick when you buy it. Then you saturate it and break it down 15 %orchid bark 15 % perlite 💦When to water: when the soil is almost completely dry (about 80 percent of the way). Light ☀️: Grow light: 10-12 hours a days or I keep mine a foot away from a south facing down that gets a couple hours of direct sunlight (about 1,000 foot candles if measuring with a light meter). Humidity: if your ambient humidity stays at 30-55 percent humidity that is more than fine. If you notice crisp on the ends, consider having it near a humidifier. Support: to encourage those fenestrated leaves, along with light, a support pole is important to strengthen the stems. I could add ir now but I’ll waiting until it grows a little more. My favorite supports are bamboo stakes, wood stakes, or a trellis. If you found this helpful, consider following along for more plant care and plant projects. Replying to @𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐲ꕥ Who needs the gym when you have plants 🪴 Last video, I shared the process of air layering and taking the top cutting from my monstera since it was getting too tall. So now during the repot, I incorporated her back in to create fuller plant. I used a cedar plank for support previously to train her to grow upwards and now I’m incorporating a trellis since she’s stable. Monsteras will need some kind of support as it continues to mature to help grow those larger fenestrated leaves. I’m a sucker for sad plants especially a sad peace lily. I don’t typically repot my plants when I first get them if they’re healthy but all my rescues, I do check the roots. They tell me a story about what’s going on. Luckily, all this baby needed was a lot of water and a good clean up. For my favorite self watering pots, comment the words “stay damp” and a link will be sent to your DM’s through automation! Peace lilies can struggle to bring us peace sometimes but they do love a good chunky well draining mix and not to dry out completely or they start to droop. I’ll be coming out with my soil mix recipe video this week so stay tuned! If you found this helpful, consider following along for more plant care and plant projects. I have grown many tropical plants in water long term (hydroponically) from monsteras to orchids but surprisingly I have never tried with a cactus. Some reasons I grow I’ve grown plants in water: -uses less water than traditional soil -less pests compared to growing in soil -Less chance of rot to your plants If this works, will I be thinking of transferring all my cactus to water? No, as long as you’re giving plenty of light and watering your cactus when it’s completely bone dry, cactus care is generally pretty low maintenance in soil anyway. A ZZ can be E-Z 😉 some more care tips ⬇️ Forget you have it! If you want strong and thick stems, light will be your best friend for her! Give her 8-12 hours under a grow light or keep up close to a window ( 300 fc if measuring with a light meter) Soil mix used: indoor potting soil, orchid bark, perlite If you have soft and mushy rhizomes or soft stems, that’s a sign that you are watering too often! I love weird plants and I’m so excited for this dirty little potato. 🥔 The Stephania erecta is a caudex plant that spouts a thin shaped stem and beautiful circular leaves. It then goes dormant during the fall and winter. The tricky part is getting that stem to grow so by growing it directly under a grow light and in increasing its humidity, let’s hope for growth soon. I’m using a succulent soil mix from @solsoils (Code plantskrystal10 gets you 10 percent off) since they can be prone to rot and if I notice the caudex deflating a bit, I may add some more soil with more water retention. I’ll let dry out completely before watering. I purchasedmine from @mountaincrestgardens I’ll keep you updated on potential growth of course! Is this a plant you’d add to your collection? #stefania #caudexplants #plantcollection

More care tips here ⬇️: 💡Light: BRIGHT LIGHT! I don’t have enough bright light coming from a window for all of them so I indoors they’re under grow light and receive more than 700 FC if measuring with a light meter. Outdoors after the gradual transition, they live in an east facing area that gets direct sunlight from 2pm-8pm outside that receives well over 2,000 foot candles. Water: the bigger the cactus, the longer it’ll go in between watering. So check the soil before deciding when to water. Water when bone dry and water thoroughly. During the fall and winter, growing will slow down significantly and so will watering. For my larger cactus, I can go all fall and winter without watering because light decreases too. Soil: I’m using a cactus soil mix and incorporate half of bonsai jack gravel and added a few handfuls of some pumice stone (perlite works fine too!) Well… that didn’t go as planned. As far as what to feed, if it’s kept outdoors, it will catch all that it needs. Indoors though you can feed your flytrap one to two live insects per month you can feed flies, spiders, crickets and slugs, or mealworms are appropriate during the growing season (spring and summer). The live food triggers the hairs on the traps letting it know that it’s something good to eat and stay closed to digest. Now for this one, it’s been in winter dormancy so it’s been working on growing larger and stronger. That mealworm must have been too strong for this baby or the trap didn’t accept it and the meal worm made its escape. I’ll wait a little longer to feed and try again 🫠. Succulents are like snowflakes. They’re all different and so cool! For potting soil, I’m using a combo of cactus/succulent soil and half bonsai jack gravel for my soil mix. Water 💦: When the soil is bone dry and the leaves show a slight wrinkle, I know it’s time to drown that h*e and water throughly. For cutting, wait to water until roots form. And for the leaves, I forget I have them and don’t add water. Light 💡: you may have some succulents that can tolerate lower light but if it’s growing too long and leggy, that tells you it’s not getting enough. She can sit right underneath a grow light or your brightest window (at least 750 foot candles if measuring with a light meter) for at least four to six hours of direct sunlight a day. When growing Outdoors, I keep many of mine in a space that gets direct sunlight for 2-4 hours a day but shade the rest of the time. Many succulents like Echeverias get a beautiful color to their leaves in brighter light! If you found this helpful, consider following along for more plant care and plant projects.
