Rothko is in the court 🎾 This past holiday we went to Paris to see the Mark Rothko exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. Finally seeing all his work in person was phenomenal and I was trying to figure out what his abstract artworks could look like if they were representations of the real world. 🗼 The best I could come up with was a tennis court. The only thing was that none of his artworks were purely green and they definitely did not have tennis players on them… so I made this one. 🎾🎾 ‘Rothcourt’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on aluminium stretched canvas. 31 x 42cm 12 x 16 To find out when this artwork and all others in this collection ‘Forbidden Grass’ will be available please please join my mailing list via my website. 📧 #markrothko #rothko #tennis #wernerbronkhorst

I shouldn’t be telling you this but I will. A friend and I went on a three day hike. We were completely delusional to think that we could spend two nights in the wild with just three litres of water, a handful of snacks, a bottle of rum, and four gummies. By some bizarre sequence of miraculous events, we made it out in one piece. Realising we didn’t have enough money to complete our trip by taxi we knew we’d have to hitchhike. We stumbled upon a local Capetonian and his German friend. They seemed unfazed about our situation and decided to give us a lift. Even though they were headed the wrong way, we couldn’t let the opportunity pass us by and jumped in their car. By this time the gummies had really started kicking in and the road started feeling more like a scene from a movie. We were in an old, blue Beatle, headed somewhere but nowhere fast. At the end of that day that lasted a week, I found myself on a bed, scrolling through the videos I had taken that day. Somehow we went on another hike with these guys, waddling alongside a few penguins next to a big boulder in the sand. But it was the last video that made me laugh, though. When we somehow arrived at my friend’s aunt’s mother’s front doorstep, the German guy said something that left me wondering if he actually knew we were zonked off our heads or if it was simply his thick accent. Whichever it was, I told him that we would indeed ‘Enjoy the trip’. — ‘Enjoy the trip’ Acrylic polymer paints on aluminium stretched canvas. 31 x 42cm To find out when this artwork and all others in this collection ‘Forbidden Grass’ will be available please please join my mailing list via my website. 📧 #wernerbronkhorst

Not sure about you but this is my ideal kind of Field Trip. Every collection features a @Porsche with something about the collection’s theme on the roof. Who would you go tandem with? I cycle almost every day of my life and have been since I bought my first mountain bike to commute to and from school. It’s one of the rare few sports that you can practice both in a group and alone anywhere in the world, any time of the year. Almost. There are many things I love about this sport but perhaps my favourite of all is that you can be both active and passive. This is especially true when you free down a mountain you climbed not too long ago, enjoying a gorgeous view while simultaneously feeling a rush of fresh air hit your face. Just sitting, breathing and watching the world go by is a feeling unlike any other. Not many things beat that feeling. ‘Going Tandem’ Acrylic polymers on aluminium stretched canvas. 51 x 62cm To find out when this artwork and all others in this collection ‘Forbidden Grass’ will be available please please join my mailing list via my website. 📧 #wernerbronkhorst

When I say I went through a massive 007 phase, I mean it. My friend’s dad had the entire collection of James Bond films and I binge watched them every time I visited his house. That’s where I was first introduced to Aston Martins and my golly gosh, I wished I owned one with all the bells, whistles and switches. That’s why I ended up drawing a DB5 driving through the woods. Who knows where the driver is headed? ‘NEED ASSETS FOR ASTON’ will be available this coming Tuesday 12 March at 9:11am Australian Eastern Daylight Time via my website.
