Star Apple aka Caimito or Milk Apple is in peak season in South Florida! 🤩 What do you call this fruit where you’re from? ✨Star apple (aka caimito) is named after the star shape found inside the pulp when you cut it in half (around its equator). ✨It is also called milk fruit for its milky looking juices that leak out of the fruit when it is cut open. ✨In Sierra Leone the fruit is called Bobi wata or breast milk fruit. In Vietnamese it is called Vú sữa which translates to breast milk. ✨Caimito is native to the Isthmus of Panama. It has spread to the Greater Antilles and the West Indies and is now grown throughout the tropics, including Southeast Asia. ✨The star apple we offer is grown in South Florida. They’re currently on sale at miamifruit.org 🌈 #starapple #caimito #cainito #vusua #milkfruit #bobiwata #tropicalfruit #miamifruit #fruit

Have you tried silverberries? These tiny fruits have a tart yet juicy flesh beneath their smooth orange skin. They grow on our small farm in South Florida in limited quantity and you can order the fruit at miamifruit.org. Silverberries are high in vitamin C and lycopene, and they’re tasty raw or cooked. Cooking the fruit increases the lycopene content. The fruits and seeds are a good source of essential fatty acids as well which is very unusual for a fruit. The seeds are also edible although somewhat fibrous, and are especially high in proteins and fats. This plant is a nitrogen fixer. It takes nitrogen out of the air and puts it into the ground through a symbiotic relationship with a bacteria that lives in their roots, thereby improving the fertility of the surrounding soils. You can eat this fruit fresh or cook it into a jam or bread. #Silverberry #Miamifruit

What is this fruit called where you’re from? In South Florida, it’s typically called custard apple. 🍎 The scientific name is annona reticulata 🤓 The flavor is very sweet like a dessert and the texture is rich and creamy 🤤 There are many varieties of annona reticulata. Some varieties have green skin that turns yellow when it’s ripe, we have a seperate box for these called “green custard apple”. 💚 Green Custard apples will be ready to harvest in a few weeks, but they’re more limited than the red ones Some custard apple varieties have red skin and dark red flesh inside, some are red on the outside and completely white on the inside, and others have red skin and a mix of pink and white flesh inside. 💗 The variety in this video has red skin and is pink inside. If you order a custard apple box, you may get one or multiple varieties depending on what’s ready to harvest. 🌳 Make sure to wait until the fruit is soft all over before eating. It should be soft enough to open with your bare hands when ripe 🙌 #custardapple #annonareticulata #annona #bullocksheart #cherimoya #redcustardapple #ramphal #exoticfruit #corazonfruit #redcherimoya #miamifruit #tropicalfruit #rarefruit #fruitarian #fruit #frugivore #rawvegan #vegan #plantbased #asmr #natureasmr #fruitasmr

It's atemoya season! Have you tried this fruit? 💚 It tastes similar to cherimoya, but more sweet like a sugar apple. The first documented cross pollination of sugar apple and cherimoya (atemoya) was made in Miami in 1908. This fruit is non-gmo. It is the result of natural selection. Most annonas can cross pollinate which allows humans and other pollinators to create new species like atemoya. The two main atemoya varieties we offer are Geffner (which originates from Israel) and African Pride (which originates from South Africa). Geffner typically has pronounced "spikes" on the outer skin and African Pride (AP) is usually more smooth. Your box may contain one or multiple varieties of atemoya, depending on what is ready to harvest when we ship your order. ➡️ miamifruit.org 🌈 #atemoya #annona #annonaceae #miamifruit

What do you call this fruit where you're from? Mamey sapote belongs to the botanical family Sapotaceae and is related to other sapotes like sapodilla, abiu, and canistel. However is not related to the black sapote or white sapote. The word “sapote” originates from the Nahuatl word tzapotl which refers to all sweet, soft fruits. This remarkable fruit has been an important source of nutrition to people in Mexico and Central America for thousands of years. Mamey sapote is extremely versatile in terms of food. It is usually added to cold milkshakes called batidos or licuados, along with other ingredients like milk, ice, nutmeg, and vanilla. Other than beverages, Mamey sapote can also be used as a flavor in various desserts such as cakes, tarts, pies, flan, pudding, mousse, and muffins. It can be used to make glazes, sauces, jams, and marmalades. Mamey sapote pairs great with other flavors like cinnamon, vanilla, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, agave, coconut milk, and mint. Although not a very traditional use of the fruit, it also tastes great eaten as a savory dish and can be used as a meat replacement like jackfruit! ➡️ miamifruit.org 🌈 #mameysapote #mamey #tropicalfruit #fruit #miamifruit #sapote
