There are TONS of myths surrounding the cause of brown tips in your plants. In this video we dispel some of those myths, and learn how to avoid them in the future. It's worth noting that for some plants, especially those that come to a point, are likely always going to have brown tips despite your best efforts. Even in nature or a perfect greenhouse setting, some plants will have brown tips- that's just how it is! #plantsoftiktok #planttiktok

These pots also don’t breathe because it is sealed. This isn’t the biggest deal if you have plants that want to retain moisture, like ferns and calathea, but for the majority of houseplants this just isn’t an ideal situation! I always recommend planting in pots with several drain holes to allow excess moisture to escape! #plants #plantsoftiktok

This plant project was brought in by a customer wanting to transfer their cutting to soil, but when I got in there I discovered it had root rot and had to change courses! In this video I clean up the root rot and set it up exactly how I like to propagate my Monstera- with LECA! This is also known as semi-hydro. I recommend the customer put their plant in bright light- the warmth will speed up root development! #plantsoftiktok #planttiktok #houseplants

This aloe vera had root rot, which happens when the soil stays too wet for too long. I got rid of the contaminated soil, along with any rotter roots and repotted the plant in fresh cactus soil. This plant will recover nicely this summer with plenty of bright light. #planttiktok #plantsoftiktok

Fiddle Leaf Figs are simple plants to grow if you just provide them with a few basic necessities. Bright light (1000+ foot candles), fast draining soil, tight pot, drainage holes, and letting them dry 25-50% between watering. The absolute BIGGEST mistake I see is not giving them enough light. They like it bright, and will actually grow in full sun where they grow in nature! #fiddleleaffig #plantsoftiktok #plants

Pothos are one of THE most popular houseplants of all time! They’re a super fast growing vine that prefers to climb, but lives perfectly fine as a trailing plant, too. Because they grow so quickly we often have to increase the pot size to allow for more grow and convenient watering. This is how I repot the Golden Pothos. #plants #plantsoftiktok #planttiktok

Holiday cactus is a common name for Christmas cactus,Thanksgiving cactus, and Spring Cactus, and this is how to repot and grow them! Bright light equals 1,000 foot candles and regardless of growing them indoors or out, I always water between 25-50% dry. I usually get that 50% during the shorter days of the year to give the plant a little break when it can’t photosynthesize as much. Use a gehtneral purpose fertilizer as directed and that’ll be good enough to give you flowers when the plant is ready! If your holiday cactus isn’t flowering it’s most likely due to too low of light. Soil recipe: 1pt peat moss, 2 pt Perlite, 1 pt calcined clay. #planttiktok #plantsoftiktok

When a plant is overwatered, better explained as watered too frequently, the soil stays too wet for too long and creates a low oxygen environment for the roots, resulting in root rot. I reduced the pot size because the root mass was reduced. Airflow is key to root developement, and the entire goal of the plant right now is to regrow the roots. By putting the plant in a smaller pot with fast draining soil you create an oxygen-rich environment for new roots to grow and thrive in. I didn't sanitize the roots here because the soil was very dry, which would get rid of any fungus or bacteria I would want to get rid of. I recommend the customer give this plant bright light, and water only when all of the soil in the pot is dry. #plantsoftiktok #succulents #planttiktok

Red spots on your plants can happen and, although alarming, a handy sign you may be watering too frequently. I find this most common in fiddle leaf fig any hoya, but that’s personal, which is a very small sample size. #plantsoftiktok #planttiktok #PlantTok

This orchid made its debut 500 days ago. At the time it was just a glimmer in the spikes eye, but here we are over a year later and she is thriving in her new pot. The charcoal has proven well as a medium so far, however the baby leaves are vert dark, and the mother plant is getting some dark speckling. I suspect its a reaction with the charcoal over time. It was about to flower again in January, but an accident broke the stem prematurely. Ill continue to keep you updated. #planttiktok #orchid #plantsoftiktok

Staking your climbing plants is optional, but is very handy in controlling their growth and top-heaviness. I continue to use PVC and coco-fiber because it lasts a long time, is easy to work with, not as messy as a true moss pole, and overall works very well. I also like the option to stack them when the plant outgrows the pole. #houseplants #plantsoftiktok #plants

This definitely isn’t the smallest orchid out there, but it’s pretty tiny, and I love it! The peat moss on the back provides a wall for the wood to sit in, as well as humidity for this orchid. It’s hard to tell from the video but the joints between the glass let plenty of air in to combat mold. I’ll give this little plant plenty of bright light and will water every time the sphagnum moss dries out. Also I’m pretty sure this is Erikas estate sale find so if you’re reading this im sorry I took credit! #plantsoftiktok #orchid

This is a succulent called Haworthia. I hesitate to say that ALL houseplants can be kept in water culture full time like this, but I’m not aware of any that can’t. The main problem with this setup is that you have to rely on the vessel for stability because water is terrible at keeping plants upright. Water culture “works” because it provides the two main things roots need to stay alive- moisture and oxygen! I recommend adding liquid-soluble nutrients to the water as well. This setup is no better than soil, just a fun way to keep plants, although purists to the hobby will tell you not to do this, it is a proven method to successfully keep plants and will cause no harm when done properly. Root cleanliness is most important with this setup! #plantsoftiktok #planttiktok

Houseplants going outside for the Spring and Summer months? This is a great way to give your plants the type of conditions it might more closely get in its natural environment. The bright light and warm temperatures are a welcome break from are cooler, dryer, more dimly lit homes. Here are a few tips to make sure the transition goes smoothly! We’ll be back in the Fall to show you how to bring them indoors. This is a Jade bonsai tree. I plant them in cactus soil for pots. #planttiktok #plants

This popular houseplant took the world by storm a few years back, and still remains a solid choice for home decor, as long as you give them the proper conditions. I give them at least 1,000 foot candles for 4 hours per day (12-14 with a grow light) and water when between 25-50% dry. #planttiktok #plants

Seeing if plants will grow on bricks is something I’ve been meaning to try for years, and I finally got around to doing it! I’m keeping this clunky thing in my studio and will hope for the best. One added benefit to this setup is that all of the plants on the brick appreciate higher humidity, which the water in the tray will provide. Let’s see how it goes! #plantsoftiktok #plants
