Most pottery experiences changes in temperature even with normal use (like pouring hot coffee into a room temperature mug). They’re meant to hold up to this kind of normal use. But sometimes I have to give my pottery a little encouragement to separate. It shouldn’t affect the integrity of the piece if done sparingly. I prefer to fire lids right next to their vessels, but with pieces like these incense holders it’s best to fire them together. #pottery #ceramics
Replying to @aeryuna Plates take a little patience, but this is how I’ve eliminated a bit of the frustration involved in making them. #pottery #ceramics
I totally get it when people say my mugs are out of their budget, but saying they’re “grossly overpriced” is another story. I know a lot of people don’t know what goes into wheel thrown ceramics, so I hope this helps in understanding why ceramicists might price their mugs the way they do. At the end of the day, I’ve found a customer base who knows how much goes into my work, and support me in so many ways (through orders and engagement). No hard feelings… I just thought this comment was a great moment to share more about the pottery process. #pottery #mugtok #ceramics
For ages I’ve wanted to make sensory mugs. I just didn’t know how to make them in my own way. Enter my chocolate colored clay—a gorgeous clay that fires to a dark chocolate color, and would be a crime to cover up completely. The facets are smooth enough to be comfortable on your hands, but provide you a little bit of sensory input as you run your hands over the bottom. The smooth top and the handle will be glazed. I really like how these came out! I plan on trying the style with bowls next! #pottery #fidgetmug
I don’t sell in person anywhere, but if I did, this would be such a great thing to have a little basket of them for kids to pick out a teeny vase. Freebies in orders is the next best thing! #pottery #throwingoffthehump
I’ve been so nervous to replace the stamp you all love so much. The person who made my original stamp doesn’t make 3D stamps anymore, and I haven’t been as impressed with the other manufacturers I’ve tried in all this time. But with this new manufacturer I’ve been so impressed. It’s such a relief to have a quality replacement! And I can’t wait to see how they all fire. #pottery #practicalmagic #practicalmagicmugs
Nesting bowls are typically really big, but I love mine for meal prep. I would love to get this down! The measurements may be fiddly, but it’s a skill that I think I can tackle pretty easily! #pottery #ceramics
I choose to do four feet instead of three because it makes them less likely to tip. It may require me to do some extra sanding at the end to make it level, but that’s a small price I’m willing to pay for a little extra security with these mugs. #pottery #cauldronmug #cauldronmugs 📵 Please do not repost this video to repost accounts
I’ve been thinking lately about professional and artistic goals I have for myself, and one of them is making a full 8 or 12 place setting dinnerware set for someone. That may not happen overnight, but I think a natural bridge to that goal is selling one place setting at a time. I’m so excited to get the others in this set made! #pottery #blates #ceramics
Replying to @Jesse It’s definitely NOT the manufacturer’s fault. Supply chain issues have been very common for potters since 2020. So if you would like to see my progress in finding a good substitute for this glaze, let me know, and I’ll gladly share! #pottery #potteryglaze
Unload the kiln with me! This is going to be a bigger restock in early May, so I hope it will make up for not having one since February. #pottery #kiln #kilnunload
Making pottery comes with a higher environmental footprint than some art mediums, but by following certain practices, we can be mindful about our material use, and energy use. Saving and reusing clay scraps, scrapping pieces that are heavily flawed before firing, making your own glazes or buying glazes in buckets you can reuse, using eco friendly shipping materials, and being efficient in your kiln loading practices— all of these things help us reduce our impact on the environment. #pottery #earthday #ceramics
Looking back at all of these that I’ve made over the last two years, I have some things I want to try, some things I want to change, and I finally have weather that will allow me to do that. May the Fourth be with you! #maythe4thbewithyou #starwars #starwarsmug #binarysunsetmug
