The most anticipated fashion show of the season without a doubt was Sean McGirr’s debut for Alexander McQueen. I truly do not envy him, nor anyone, that has to bear the weight of one of the greatest creatives and designers to have ever walked the earth. But someone has to. I also understand that unlike other brands, who can change creative directors and still have hero products that keep the business booming, Alexander McQueen has one but will lean on McGirr to create more. So he’s walking a very thin tightrope. Loewe by Jonathan Anderson is always like watching a show at an art gallery, but this he actually transformed the show set into a gallery, and added in 18 of his own paintings by the American artist Albert York to give us the real deal feel! The collection focused heavily on floral and vegetable prints, as well as traditional tailoring tail coats and voluminous baggy trousers. And there were even pieces that looked like they had been taken right out of an Albert York painting! The biggest topic of conversation surrounding The Row has been their lack of social media content, which they asked guests to abide by. Obviously, that didn’t totally happen. But it seemed to be the overhwhelming take away from the collection, which at this point of doing this for me, I could care less about. Access or lack of access doesn’t deter me from my work, and I think I do respect the idea of wanting the focus to be on the clothing, for the people in attendance to be able to sit with that.
