Nyepi is an OTHERWORLDLY experience. Would you come to Bali to live through this once? 🇮🇩 Nyepi means to be silent, and for 24 hours, the entire island shuts down. This means everyone must stay on their property, no one is allowed to go onto the streets, beaches are closed, guards patrol the streets to ensure no one wanders off, lights are forbidden, no fires, no cooking, no working, no entertainment and everyone must remain as silent as possible. It’s literally the opposite of new years anywhere else in the world and it’s almost otherworldly. New Year’s Day in Bali is a day for reflection, to pray and purify. Why no lights and silence?
