At Hampton University, crossing Ogden Circle isn’t just a stroll across the grass—it’s a rite of passage. For years, students have upheld the tradition of avoiding the circle in front of Robert C. Ogden Auditorium, all because of a legendary warning known as the Ogden Hall curse. According to campus lore, any student who dares step on the grass before earning their degree risks not graduating on time—or not graduating at all. Because of this, most Hamptonians make it a point to walk around the circle for their entire college career, treating it with a mix of caution and respect.
