Being a “selfish” mom is so essential aka prioritizing your mental & physical health FIRST ! (And yes, the “selfish” is satire people as we know it’s not truly selfish). Without prioritizing you, you get burnt out and have nothing else to give. It’s that analogy of you can’t pour from an empty cup or the oxygen mask on a plane… you have to put it on YOU first to help others around you • The whole selfish mom thing for me was monumental for me during postpartum. It was prioritizing a little bit of time for me and that time looked different each day. That time could look like sitting in silence, moving my body, going for a walk, praying in the morning, journaling, listening to a personal growth podcast, reading a couple pages in a book for the day, make it a point to shower and get dressed for the day… alone, scheduling an online therapy session etc et.. There’s soooo many ways that you can prioritize your mental and physical health & it’s NOT all spa days and getting your nails done. Self-care is soo much more than that and you can do it for FREE and at home. • For me, it was mostly through movement and the movement became my medicine for my mental health, it was truly something I looked forward to and it feels awesome knowing that my third son has been part of it every step of the way. He even initiates me now running on the treadmill and doing squats at only 1.5 years old. I get called “selfish” all the time but we all know self-care is crucial as a mom so call me selfish all you want, I love it because I know that prioritizing my mental and physical health before my kids is mandatory so I can be the best mom. Owning the “selfish” title is just satire bc we all know self-care is necessary. • Becoming a “SELFISH” mom was the best thing I ever did for myself and for my kids. What’s a selfish mom? Well it’s a mom who prioritizes her mental and physical health BEFORE anyone and anything else, including her kids. Why is this selfish? Well obviously it’s not & SATIRE as a mother’s self-care almost seems like common sense… you know the whole analogy and airline law where you have to put your oxygen mask on yourself first before you put it on your kids or anyone else? But for some reason, people label it “selfish” when moms prioritize themselves before their kids. It’s praised to be “selfless” … but we all know us moms who put everything and everyone else before us are resentful & BURNT out. • Postpartum was a struggle especially the third time around and prioritizing myself first got me through this time. It was creating that space, time and prioritizing my mind, my body and mental health during this time that made me a stronger person and a BETTER mother, so I own the selfish title 👏🏼 • Last day to join my 30 day walking challenge.
