It's been 17 days since Backspace got his first splint. I love the idea that he's entering this new year with a different prognosis. For those who asked, amputation was always our original plan. When he first started to use the litter box, that foot was curved up in a way that he sometimes caught his own 💩 with it and then when he started walking, it was affecting his movement so much that it was the first thing everyone brought up. But because the rest of him was so healthy, there was no need to pursue surgery while he was young and the vet said, while we wait, let's try the casts. Even after they suggested that it was time to stop, they said keeping the leg on for now may help him be a little more balanced while he was growing so we should circle back later. I still kept up his exercises before finally deciding - if he was going to lose the leg anyway and if we were still waiting for him to get a little bigger, then there is no hurt in trying. I showed one of his vets his progress on Day 3 and she told me to keep going. He gets neutered on the 19th so we'll see what the next 18 days bring for our special little man. P.S. After she saw his progress, our vet got so excited that she said she wants to help all the kittens with backwards legs in the future. Our little Backspace is helping her come up with a plan for similar kittens in the future. Yesterday, a guard told my brother about a cat in the area. My mom and I walked there right away and found her in a box. Her body was wet and was in pain. Thankfully, there's nearby vet. There was nothing much they could do at the moment as Kitty was almost... not breathing. Kitty is with her feeder now. It's best if Kitty stays with them because some of my cats are sick. I told them everything the vet told me and once Kitty is stable, she should get x-ray and further treatment. I'll send her help.
