New Rescue Alert! We were contacted about this kitty a few weeks ago and were unable to catch him on the first attempt. When we went back today, we learned that he is Beavis' brother and was left behind by the same family 💔 This boy is extremely matted and in very poor condition. We think he is most likely FeLV positive, too, and will probably also need a dental. Although he didn't want to be caught, he is very sweet to his caretaker and had an indoor family life before. After he decompresses, we're sure he will be a sweetheart with us, too. Right after catching him we went straight to our vet. He is currently their and will be getting a haircut and full health assessment. We have named this beautiful boy Aegis (pronounced ee- juhs) after Zeus' shield. Stay tuned for his after vet update. Ps. we are aware that we need to post some updates, but we have A LOT of new kitties and will get updates out as soon as we can. We have to focus on taking care of all our rescues babies first. We have seven new kitties coming our way tomorrow. We will be live rescuing around 1130am PST tomorrow for that rescue.

New Rescue Alert! Everyone Meet the 4x4 babies! We were out doing TNR when the owner of the home let us know that one of the cats had recently given birth to 5 kittens in her backyard. We were able to find the babies hidden underneath some bikes and a cardboard box. Unfortunately, when we found them, there were only 3 kittens when the day before there had been 5. This put us in a hard position. We always want the kittens to be with mom when possible, but if we took mom and there were still 2 babies, then they wouldn't survive. If we left the babies and the other 2 kittens had been killed or gotten sick, we were putting their lives at risk. We got these babies right before a storm was blowing in, so we thought mom might have been in the process of moving them to a safer place? We opted to take the three kittens and have the homeowner watch over mom to see if she led them to the other two. It's been over 2 weeks now, and the babies were never spotted again 💔 The three kittens we do have, have been doing amazing. We bottle fed them the first night, and then they went to our newest bottle, baby foster, Griselda 🤗 They came back to us last week for deworming and to have their photos taken. They are the cutest little nuggets and healthy as can be. We will be back to get mom for TNR on April 25th. These three cuties are available for pre-adoption. They won't be ready to go home until they grow big enough for their spay and neuter surgeries. If you're interested in pre-adopting, please fill out an adoption application by visiting the link in our bio @catsofsanbernardino. It's kittens season, and we are getting SO MANY rescue pleas. If you're available to foster kittens, kittens with mom, or bottle babies, please let us know! We cannot do it all ourselves, we need your support! Ps we named these kittens after Dodge and Jeep vehicles because the yard was filled with them 🤗

Santa Anita Update! Our beautiful old girl went to the vet last week, and she wasn't stable enough to have any work done. Our vet didn't think she would survive going under anesthesia, and she was too stressed to allow them to take any blood or look at her closely. We are working on getting her strong enough to go under anesthesia so that we can find out what all is wrong and help her get better. She currently has pain medication, antibiotics, and supplements so that she isn't in pain and can get stronger. She is a bit stinky girl because she won't let me clean her, and we are trying to avoid causing her any stress. In good news, she has already warmed up to me and loves to have pets. She has also fallen in love with her new comfy bed (we aren't sure she has ever had one). She has given us purrs and the tiniest of biscuits. She is finally gaining weight (she actually lost a bit the first few days). We are weighing her daily her lowest point, being 4.3 pounds, and she is now at 4.8 🤗 Santa Anita will be back at the vet next Friday, where we are hopeful she will allow at least some testing to be done. She can be spicy when she wants to be. Stay tuned for updates on this beautiful girl.

New Rescue Alert! We were in Brooklyn, New York, a couple of weeks ago and went out to visit colony cats with our friends at Paws of Hope NYC. We wanted to educate ourselves on the lives of feral cats in the city. While we were out, they got a call about a cat who had been abandoned in her carrier 3 days previously. We went out with them to see if we could find her. Little Mama was still waiting patiently in her carrier for someone to help. The ladies were talking about her placement as they were at capacity, and we asked if we could take her home with us ❤️ Brooklyn got in to see their vet and got checked for a microchip, vaccinated, SNAP tested, and ready for travel. Brooklyn did amazing. My first time carrying her in my arms was through TSA, and she trusted me immediately. She even came out to sit on my lap during the flight. Brooklyn is officially available for adoption. If you're interested in adopting Brooklyn please fill out an application by visiting the link in our bio @catsofsanbernardino on IG We also want to highlight the amazing work that Paws of Hope NYC does for the cats in their community. If you would like to support their work, please consider donating food from their Amazon wishlist. We have added their wishlist to the link in our bio @catsofsanbernardino on IG

Rain Update! Our beautiful boy was hospitalized for over 2 weeks with the most terrible infection of his arm. Our doctor honestly doesn't know what caused the injury/infection but did say it looked like something had been wrapped around it. We honestly didn't know if he was going to survive. It took days for him to break his fever, and the wound was taking up so much of his arm that we thought if he survived, he would need it amputated. Little man had other plans. His fever finally broke, and his wound declared itself. He was able to come home with us on Match 12th, and we have been treating him since. His leg has almost completely healed, and he is the happiest little man ❤️ We are so proud of how much fight he had to survive. Thank you to everyone who donated towards Rain's treatment and care. Thank you to our vet at Arrowview Animal Hospital and their amazing staff for taking such amazing care of Rain❤️ You guys are life savers.

Here is an update on Kevin! Our foster Candace wrote about him below. You can follow his foster adventures @mae_and_penelope on IG "Hi everyone! Here’s an update on Mr. Kevin, the kitty rescued from the 215 freeway. Kevin is doing so well! He’s a perfect angel! He has so much soul behind his eyes and he loves to make eye contact. I really feel like he is so grateful to be far far away from that freeway. He has a great appetite and is slowly gaining weight with nutritious kitten food. I can tell that he’s gaining more energy because he’s become very curious about his surroundings and has been exploring more. He can get around pretty well despite his injured leg/hip, but I know he will be much happier to not have it holding him back. He wants to jump on up on things, but can’t (and he shouldn’t yet). He also loves stretching and scratch mats! :) He’s been a bit itchy lately but he can’t scratch behind his ear so I try to help him out. I think he’s itchy because we realized he was very sunburned from being on the freeway so long. The last image shows how the tips of his ears were curling due to long-term sun exposure. They are slowly healing and have turned to scabs now, so they’re back to their normal shape :) his nose is also scabbing and his fur is coming back. He is such a doll and I can’t wait to see him continue to improve! 💕 -Candace" Guys, we are exited to announce that KEVIN IS OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE FOR PREADOPTION!! If you are interested in adopting Kevin, please visit the link in our bio for our adoption application.

New Rescue Alert! We were told by a colony caretaker that one of the new kittens that showed up at her colony looked swollen in the tummy, we honestly thought she was too young to be pregnant. We were wrong. Little Mama went into labor inside her transfer carrier while we were waiting to get her into the vet. We tried to transfer her into a larger crate, and she escaped into our house. We knew she wouldn't dare go near a trap again after just being caught, so we corralled her into our guest restroom. She was understandably very stressed, and once delivering all her kittens, she didn't want anything to do with them. We took the kittens with us to keep them warm while mom settled down. We moved in some cat cubbies and safe spots for her to snuggle into and left her to decompress. She found her favorite safe space (a safe sided cat cave), and we proceeded to move her kittens into the cave. After a couple of minutes, she started caring for them ❤️ She ended up with three beautiful silver tabbies 😍

Replying to @kristy8cats Aegis Update! We got lots of news from the vet yesterday. Let's start with his SNAP test he was surprising FeLV negative, which is a huge win, BUT he is FIV positive. We noticed a lot of confusion on his first video about the difference between FIV and FeLV. With FeLV (Feline leukemia virus), it is contagious to other cats through more casual contact like mutual grooming and sharing litter boxes, etc. The lifespan of a cat with FeLV is severely affected and is usually only 2-3 years after infection. FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus) is not spread by casual contact and is usually contracted from fighting and deep bite wounds. Life expectancy isn't as greatly affected. Many cats with FIV live normal life spans but are more prone to diseases like cancer, which leads us into our next update. A mass was found in the back of Aegis' throat. The mass is most likely why he wasn't grooming and had those huge mats. The mass was removed and has been sent away to see if it is cancerous. He was able to be sedated and have his extreme makeover. His hair was cut, and we know he feels a lot of relief already. Aegis only had a couple of teeth left, many falling out already. He is over 10 years old and is definitely in his golden retirement years. We are still waiting on blood work and some additional testing, but for now, he is home and comfortably resting. Thank you to everyone who has donated to Aegis medical bills, without your support, rescues like Aegis wouldn't be possible. Special thanks to our friends Arrowview Animal Hospital for always going above and beyond for our rescues ❤️ Stay tuned for more updates. **We have many more updates on our other rescues coming soon**

New Rescue Alert! We were out trying to rescue a black cat that was full of matted hair when this cute girl walked out. We noticed that she was walking sideways with her head tilted. She also had matted hair and looked thin. She walked up to us and was clearly very friendly, so we scopped her up to take her with us. She ended up testing FeLV positive and has a very sore mouth. After a few days with us, she wasn't making many improvements, so we took her to the vet to be hospitalized. She just spent 4 days there and did gain some weight. She is going to need a dental and most likely a consultation with a neurologist. Overall, her blood work looks good, which is great. Her thyroid and kidneys were checked to try and figure out why she's so malnourished, but those checked out good as well. We did find out from people living around the park that she used to have an owner, and when they moved, they left her behind. She might just have a sore mouth and not be able to hold her own against the true feral cats at the colony. Overall, we think she will be okay but has a lot to overcome. We were told that he owners had named her Beavis. She does know her name, but we aren't sure if we should keep it? Maybe a fresh start for her would be good. We will save those decisions for a later date. Stay tuned for updates, and please consider donating towards Beavis' vet bills and continued care. This is post that we have been dreading.. We had to say goodbye to our beautiful Santa Anita 💔 The large growth under her jaw was a tumor that was rapidly growing. Our poor girl was starting to have a hard time eating, and we knew even with meds that she was in pain.. we had to make the hard decision to let her go. It's so heartbreaking when these kitties have been through so much, and there isn't anything we can do to save them. We had to take solace knowing that she was safe, loved, warm, and had a full tummy for her short time us. For a kitty who had never been touched by her caretaker, she sure did love to soak in our snuggles. You're no longer in pain, beautiful girl. We loved you so much. We will take good care of your colony friends Beavis and Aegis for you ❤️ Fly high Santa Anita 🌈 Heaven has gained another angel. **Please understand that this is very hard for us as we put our entire being into helping these angels.. Although we don't always get the outcome we wish for, we know we have to stay strong for the next rescues out there that need us.**
