I'm so sorry to have to share this. This morning, I noticed that Birdie wasn't as responsive and was having a harder time breathing. I last checked on him around 3 am - he ate, I kissed him a million times, and he was purring like the baby he is. @Simon Tung checked on him at 5 am and made sure he was warm. He was bright and purring. When I woke up, I saw that he was struggling. I started heading to the ER, but 5 minutes away from arriving, he took his last deep breath. I still brought him in and they confirmed that Birdie is gone. Birdie was unreal. He and his sister were surrendered to @Animal Care Centers of NYC as strays, but clearly, they were not quite the average house cat. His sister passed quickly, but Birdie took me on a roller coaster. His pectus excavatum was severe, but he was so small and wasn't eating well that getting him to a pound (and treating him for giardia) was our immediate priority. In the week between his first two vet visits, he lost 10% of his body weight and then gained all of it back plus 70 grams. He hit 1 lb yesterday. He had started playing with toys and he was enamored with Skooty. Last night, we napped on the couch and had pouch time. And now he is gone. 💔 Thank you to everyone who joined us on this short journey and fell in love with and supported Birdie. #birdie
