The radius and ulna form a type of joint called a syndesmosis, specifically a pivot joint, allowing for rotational movement. The torque action of twisting a dumbbell to vigorously can really irritate this joint. To my recollection we only have one other occurrence of this joint action; that’s the articulation between the tibia and fibula in the lower leg.
