I hope this helps anyone who may be in a similar situation or perhaps finds themselves in a similar situation down the line (hopefully not but hey 💩 happens). Have faith in your body and it’s ability to recover. You just have to be willing to put the work in. I’m not saying it will be easy but if you put your mind to it you can do it. In the mean time I’ll continue trying to lead by example and come back stronger than ever 😁
It’s back day today so here’s a pulldown video for y’all. Last time I posted this video I had a “Coach” arguing with me that I was a bad coach because I was writing off valid exercises and that every exercise is good. Yet when I asked what the benefits of these movements were over a traditional pulldown 🦗🦗🦗… I would challenge the notion that every exercise is good. I think moving more in general is great however there certainly are more optimal exercises to reach whatever goal you may have. This video is an example of that. If you want to grow your back then pick movements that better suit that goal and don’t limit your ability to continue progressing. This is pretty much exactly what I’ve done to grow my forearms since I started training. I’ll typically do these movements consistently for at least a full mesocycle of 10-12 weeks if not multiple then my forearms just maintain from my normal training. Especially because I don’t use straps on pull days until my grip becomes the limiter. Easy way to squeeze out some forearm gains or maintain what you’ve got. In this age of social media there are a lot of entitled people popping up on socials acting like they’re the only people who matter in the gym. I’ve been lifting for 14 years now and when I first started filming in the gym was definitely not the norm. I remember feeling really bad about filming and potentially inconveniencing people who felt the need to go around my camera. I still feel this way to this day and encourage anyone around me to just ignore it and will happily move if they don’t want to be filmed. Hopefully this helps the people in my comments who ask questions like “no rear delt work?” After I just did 3 different pulling exercises that all heavily involved the rear delt. Same with the low to high row I posted the other week and all the people telling me that they thought it was a lat biased row due to the arm path. You have to look at the resistance profile, where peak resistance is, direction of resistance and what muscles have good leverage through that rom. I keep it pretty simple when it comes to triceps. Some type of pushdown variation with my upper arm around the side of my torso then some kind of extension where the shoulder is flexed to 90deg+ or a dip/press variant. #triceps #jpgcoaching #fyp
This is the big picture stuff that you should be focused on nailing if your goal is to retain muscle on a cut and lose as much fat as possible. @Carla in the OG clip! Since the knees are bent the glutes will be able to better contribute to hip extension over the hamstrings. I swear I’ve basically had this exact conversation before minus kneeing them in the stomach 😂 Sometimes people don’t ask because they actually want to know the why. They want someone to tell them that what they were planning on doing is correct. Regardless of what new info comes to light. If you’re already doing 5-10 sets for a muscle throughout the week then you’re probably already within a range that you could be seeing progress. However you could do 10-15 sets and see next to no growth if you’re not training hard, barely sleeping and eating poorly. Even with just 1-3 hard sets in a week you could likely maintain your muscle and strength. So why do you think you need 25 sets to see progress? I wrote the working sets I did just to show you guys how I train. I rested 2-3min between sets including unilateral exercise sets.
