It was like baby’s first bath. 🥹 This was such a nice treat for her before surgery the next day. Nurses are angels. 😇

Surgery #5 was Friday and things went great. There are still some concerns, such as the loss of blood circulation to her toes as you can see in this video. Believe it or not they have drastically improved! As you continue to pray for our sweet girl, please pray for her feet specifically, as well as her facial reconstruction surgery which will take place late next week. Every morning I wake up hoping this was all just a terrible nightmare, but I’m grateful for how much she has healed. Last week was incredibly scary. We still have a long road ahead of us. They had to remove a large portion of her face around her right eye and temple due to the bacteria. Seeing my child’s skull bone was not something I ever thought I’d witness. To be honest, I’ve become rather numb to it now. It may take quite a few procedures until she starts looking like herself again, and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. We’re just so grateful she’s still here right now. Thank you all again for the love and support. I made Kennedy an Amazon Wish List today and I am completely blown away by everyone’s generosity. I may be bias, but this girl deserves the world and then some after what she’s gone through. I’ve been reading all your comments, and they’ve meant so much to my husband and I. ♥️

Please enjoy some of Kennedy’s greatest hits while she’s still in surgery. It’s going really well and she’s almost done!

With the help of physical therapy I was able to hug my sweet baby girl today. This all started out as the flu. Influenza B to be exact. We all caught it, and Kennedy tested positive for it on Saturday, March 23rd. By Easter weekend she was doing great and ready to go back to school on Monday. However, the next day, Easter Sunday, she started complaining of eye pain. Nothing looked out of the ordinary and we assumed she had a migraine. Around 11 pm she was running a fever and vomiting. She complained of eye pain all night, but eventually fell asleep. When we woke up the morning of Monday, April 1st, Kennedy’s right eye was just a tad bruised in the corner near her nose and a little bit swollen. We decided to err on the side of caution and take her to the pediatrician. By the time we got there, her eye lid had swollen completely and the bruising was spreading. She looked like she had been punched in the eye. Her stats were all normal, but the pediatrician was concerned and sent us to the ER. Once we arrived at the ER, we were immediately taken to the children’s emergency room where several doctors and nurses were ready and waiting for us. That was our first “oh shit, this is serious” moment. Her stats had completely plummeted and they quickly took blood for labs. About 40 minutes later they determined she was in septic shock. She was intubated the next day and transferred to another hospital. They did biopsies on her eye and our entire world shattered when those results came back as Necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease. She was quickly rushed to surgery, and we feared we would never see our baby again. Since then, she has had 4 surgeries total to remove the bacteria. She will have one more tomorrow, and then will have reconstructive surgery next week. She was extubated yesterday and is awake, but can’t talk yet. She is still extremely weak. Every single organ has taken a hit, and there are still other concerns moving forward, but we’re continuing to pray and take this one day at a time.
