ah, behaivoral job interview questions! 💬 these questions are designed to get a sense of how you’ve handled yourself professionally in difficult or challenging situations. They usually start out with, “Tell me about a time when…” and are SUPER hard to answer if you aren’t prepared! So, to prepare, here are some of the most common scenarios they may ask you about: 🌟 Tell me about a time you showed leadership 🌟 Tell me about a time you went above and beyond 🌟 Tell me about a time you disagreed with boss/coworker 🌟 Tell me about a time you made a mistake/failed 🌟 Tell me about a time you had to make a difficult decision 🌟 Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer Basically, think of an example where you had a challenge at work. Maybe it was: 😤 A disagreement on strategy with a coworker 🫠 Aparticularly difficult client/customer 😫 An overhwleming workload 😎 A time you communicated proactively 😜 A meeting where you had to motivate your team Have a few of these in you back pocket. & remember: be authentic — talk about what was truly challenging to you and how you overcame it. Be humble, be earnest, and be concise. YOU GOT THIS! 👏🏼 #c#careeradvicei#interviewtipsi#interviewj#jobinterviewj#jobw#workc#collegei#internshipc#corporate9#9to5i#interviewtipsr#resumer#resumetipsi#interviewoutfitsw#womeninfilmw#womeninstemw#womenintechi#interviewprepr#resumehelpj#jobsearchs#salaryi#interni#interviewquestionsjobinterviewquestions
❌ Myth: if you’re on the cusp of the next tax bracket you shouldn’t accept a raise because you’ll be making less money. ✅ Fact: the US uses a progressive tax system, so you’ll never be making less when you’re making more. 🧍♂️You, your local 3rd grade teacher, and Oprah are all paying the same 10% on your first ~$10,000, the same 12% on your next ~$30,000, the same 22% on your next ~$50,000 and on and on. 🔝 So if you’re at the TOP of the 12% bracket, and you get a $5,000 raise that bumps you into the 22% bracket—you only have to pay 22% on that extra $5,000 (not your full income) 🤷🏼♀️ so, sure, your “tax bracket” might be 22% — but that doesn’t mean you’re paying 22% of your income to fed taxes. The actual percentage will be closer to 8-9% 🤗 You got this! 👏🏼 #work #life #career #careeradvice #careertiktok #careertok #raise #salary #salarytransparency #salarynegotiation #boss #coworker #money #personalfinance #college #intern #moneytips #tax #taxes #taxseason
Ah, the “waiting to hear back about a job” black hole— such a hard place to be! Here’s my advice on how to take more control of this period: When the interview ends: ✅ Ask interviewer when you can expect to hear back about next steps ✅ Obtain/confirm their email so you can send a thank you note ⏰ 12-24 hours later 👉🏼📧 send follow-up thank you email 🗓️ Status update deadline (or if they didn’t give one, 2-3 weeks later of radio silence): send a check in email reiterating interest Polite, professional checkins show passion, focus, enthusiasm and interest. That’s all employers want! I can’t speak for everyone (obviously lol) but I’ve personally never hired a candidate who did not send a follow up email after the interview. 💪🏼 Showing initiative and drive is super appealing to employers! Ah, the classic ✨voluntary resignation✨ Sounds good in theory right? Instead of getting fired, you get to say you quit (and you might even get severance!) Well, in reality, HR isn’t doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. Remember: it’s HR’s job to protect and advocate for the company (that’s who is paying their bills, not you). Yes, in some scenarios it can be mutually beneficial. And, in many cases, it can be a nifty workaround that allows companies to legally & financially protect themselves. As with everything in life, read that paperwork 👏🏼 and if it’s too legalese, have a lawyer glance at it (or throw it in AI and ask it to analyze it). Having rights is meaningless if you don’t know what they are. Okay, this one is kind of a doozy — but it’s important!! Essentially, the No Surprises Act is intended to protect you, the individual receiving healthcare, from out-of-network surprise bills (ex: bloodwork, labs, tests, anesthesiology, specialists, etc.). Before the act, hospitals could bill you for an out-of-network cost without giving you a heads & you’d have to battle it out with the hospital & insurance (and many people would just end up paying it because… thats one way the healthcare industry makes $$$) But now, you have a bit more leverage. This act is mainly designed to help people in emergency situations, but, ironically doesn’t cover “ground ambulances” ?? Only “air ambulances” ?? Like helicopters? Ugh. Anywho, here are the technicals: The No Surprises Act (NSA) is a federal law that protects people from surprise medical bills. It went into effect on January 1, 2022 for most health plans, health systems, and hospitals. The NSA protects people from surprise medical bills in the following circumstances: 🚨Most emergency services 🏥 Non-emergency services from out-of-network providers at in-network facilities 🚁 Services from out-of-network air ambulance service providers 🛑 The NSA aims to limit the amount a person pays out of pocket to a level closer to what they would pay if the healthcare provider were in-network. The NSA defines this limit using a recognized market amount or qualifying figure, like the average fee for the service. 🤨 The NSA also makes it easier for people to understand the costs of health care services before they get a service (but obviously the last thing you’re thinking about when your femur is cracked in half from a car accident is “so how much is this going to cost me? Is this a network hospital?” We’ve got a long way to go with this backwards healthcare system — but hopefully the No Surprised Act can help more people advocate for themselves in the meantime. Not sure? Have questions? Need someone to talk to? Call the government Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059 (they speak 350+ languages!) NOT LEGAL ADVICE, just education. 😬 Yes, people who hire will check your social media. 👩🏼💻 A 2018 CareerBuilder study found that 70% of employers use social media when screening candidates and 56% have rejected candidates based off of what they found 😳 (that number is probably much higher in 2024!) 🕵🏼♀️ And even if you don’t use your public name, they can 1000% still find it (like through your email or phone number). 💻 Assume everything you put on the internet is public & permanent! ✨ In fact, this is so important that in my program, the Career Workshop Intensive, we cover how to clean up your digital footprint & hide accounts! You’d be SHOCKED how many people get rejected based off of their social media 😅 don’t be one of them!!! You got this !! 👏 #careeradvice #careertiktok #genz #socialmedia #jobinterview
In the US, most employment is “at will” so you can leave a job at anytime for any reason. 🪙 On the flip side, employers can also fire you or lay you off same day. ⚖️ While there are pros and cons to our system, it’s important to point out a huge double standard: the two weeks notice. ⤵️ Instead of encouraging people to up & leave same day (as it is their right), I think it’s interesting to shift the responsibility to the companies. 🙁The reality that a perfectly wonderful employee can have the rug pulled out from underneath them in 1 phone call leads to a volatile workplace that makes us anxious. 🔒 Why don’t we add more security on both sides? Even if not through law, maybe through etiquette and social change. 🤷🏼♀️ & if a company doesn’t want a “dead man walking” — tell them they don’t have to come in. But send them 2 weeks of paychecks while you find a replacement. 🗓️ & if someone wants to get out of a workplace asap (for normal reasons), 2 weeks isn’t that long. 🔑 seems like some added security may help both companies and workers. Americans, what do you think? 🌟 extra curious to hear from biz owners! As a business owner myself, I’m 100% on board!
Resume looking a little sparse? Good news! 🌟 You can do things literally just to put them on your resume. ✅ Freelance. ✅ Volunteer. ✅ Apply for an award/scholarship. ✅ Attend a conference. Under the NLRB (National Labor Relations Act) employees have the right to communicate with their coworkers about salary. 💸 ‼️ REMEMBER: someone getting paid more than you doesn’t automatically mean the company is discriminatory — there are many factors that go into compensation and rate. Salary transparency leads to more data, which can inform you. Maybe your coworker negotiated higher, they are more educated, they have a unique skill, they’ve been there longer, etc. And vice versa. If you think one of your coworkers isn’t being fairly compensated, you can always help them advocate for themselves! 👏🏼 And, if you do choose to discuss pay with coworkers, you can’t be fired, punished, or retaliated against for doing so. So, let’s celebrate Equal Pay Day by sharing our salary with coworkers 🤗 Questions? Go to NLRB.gov or google “NLRA your right to discuss wages” to learn more. #salary #salarytransparency #equalpay #joboffer #college #intern
