A Hundred Stars a poem by Quincy LK Before I lay me down to sleep I fold a paper star I breathe a wish inside each one then place them in a jar When a hundred stars are in this jar, I'll gift them all to you For a hundred stars inside this jar can make one wish come true I've seen no other good luck charm to work like paper stars The four leaf clovers hide from me, and the rabbit foot's bizarre No penny found has brought around, good fortune or a boon But the hundred stars inside this jar are magic through and through For every paper star I fold joy sparks inside my heart And I believe that I'll receive my wish all soft and warm. Hearts and Minds a poem by QuincyLK Angels and demons upon our shoulders, a tale as old as time Like the ancient legend of two old wolves fighting ravenous inside It's the familiar life-long struggle cursing all of humankind The internal, lasting scuffle of our hearts against our minds For the heart desires love and life but can act out recklessly While the mind prefers to just survive, and decides things callously For the heart has this magic to believe in things it may never see While the mind perceives things felt and seen based in reality The heart will often choose to stay in places that it shouldn't Because it strives to prove itself loyal when others wouldn't The mind will try to recognize what's true and what's important And visualize a plan to act as a safety reinforcement The heart tends to hold onto the potential and what if's, Where the mind prefers to focus on the now and what is.
