Id give this guy a full soak after repotting, but if you want to further decrease chances of bacterial or fungal infection you can let the plant dry for a few days before watering. These plants are very tough and I expect it’ll turn out healthy with a healthy dose of bright light, warmth, and proper watering. This customer was concerned about their dendrobium orchid and asked if I would take a look at the roots. Overall they were quite healthy and had only minor root rot. We got the orchid cleaned up and repotted in a clean pot with fresh soil. This isnt exactly how orchids work, but its an easy-to-remember trick when troubleshooting your orchid care. A drastic temperature drop, although naturally occurring, isn’t vital to your orchid flowering. I’ve flowered orchids for years in my home without dropping the temperature. I like to plant my orchids in orchid bark and light should be bright! I make sure mine get at least 1000 foot candles for a minimum of 4 hours per day. Keeping your plants in water full time is called “water culture,” or, “hydroponic.” The words make it sound complicated, but keeping your plants in water full-time is super simple! Root cleanliness is the key to success, which is why I washed off all the soil and added the products that I did. I add water weekly as it evaporates. I don’t know of any plants that cannot be in water culture, although it’s not great for top-heavy plants.
