Time Under Tension (TUT) isn’t what you think… People confused the terms “mechanical tension” and “time under tension” all the time. The former is the stimulus for muscle growth. The latter is the stimulus for my migraines. Because saying your sets need to be “40-90 seconds long to maximise gains” is as useful as a knitted condom. The only TUT that means anything is toward the end of the set where your reps involuntarily slow down. Despite you pushing so hard you shit a kidney. Now don’t get it twisted, I think tempo is important. It teaches you how to actually use your muscles rather than bouncing the weight up and down like Nikki Minaj’s butt in a music video. That’s why I get all my clients to run through an execution phase with me first.
