Anatomy scan day! These ultrasounds are usually a pretty big milestone during pregnancy. It signifies the half-way mark, gives you the clearest and longest look at baby you’ve had yet, and usually is the chance to find out your baby’s gender or confirm it! So fun! We always look forward to these scans, and after 4 pregnancies it’s still just as exciting as the first time around. The gender was confirmed, and all of baby’s organs and bones are measuring right where we predicted they would - 19.5 weeks! Weaning. It can be a source of relief, sadness, and mixed feelings. Whether you provide breastmilk for your baby for 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months, or 5 years, the process of closing that chapter can be a lot to handle for both mother and child. Give yourself, your body, and your child grace. This process doesn’t have to be linear, and it’s going to look different for everyone. Over the last 6 years of nursing I’ve learning so much about the mother/child relationship, and have a newfound appreciation for my body and it’s abilities. This new chapter with my next baby is bittersweet. HOW TO PAINT ON BREAD. First off, yes this is 100% edible food colorings — ya know, the ones you use to color icing for cakes and stuff? 🤗They are just the gel style to remain thick like acrylic paint. Here is a list of supplies I use (everything is linked in my amazon storefront in my bio) and some directions: SUPPLIES For the food paint: - Liquid Food Whitener (from @chefmaster ) - Food Coloring Gels (I prefer @wiltoncakes , but have used others) - Palette to mix on (I found this ceramic palette from amazon that I love) - Water - Paint brush (I prefer round tip) - Something to scoop out the gels (I used the end of a small spoon) For the sourdough: - Scoring Blade - Flour to dust on the bottom of the loaf - I have learned that I do not like dusting flour on top of the loaf, as it makes it hard for the paint to adhere on the bread DIRECTIONS: - Add small amounts of your desired colors onto your palette - Add the liquid food whitener to all of the colors, as this truly is the key to making the food coloring brighter and actually show up well when baked on the bread. - Add the tiniest amount of water by dipping your brush into the water and mixing it with the colors. - You want the consistency to stay as thick as possible, but smooth enough to glide across the bread easily. TIPS: - When I take off the lid during baking at the 20 minute mark, I will sometimes touch up the design if it warps a little bit or looks too faded. This will allow me to fix some of the design, but allow it to bake and dry all the way. - Try to avoid adding the food paint on too thick. This will allow it to dry fully during the baking process. - Colors do change quite a bit when baked. For example, warm red/pink tones usually bake and come out more on the purple spectrum! If #gentleparenting is the label you like wearing, go for it. All I’m saying is this specific style/community of parents does not fit every household. As someone who really wanted it to work and then had to come to terms with abandoning the label, you gotta do what works for you and your children. I wouldn’t call myself a “gentle” person. @Hali jama I can tell your thoughts and feelings are coming from a genuine place of protection and love - truly. That being said, being a stay at home mom is anything but a trend. If anything, more women entering the workforce in lieu of being a full-time home maker is a “trend”. Nothing wrong with that. However, what is *absolutely* a trend is working women talking down to stay-at-home mothers as if we aren’t aware of how life, money, and society works. Any woman with half a brain has 100% thought through every point you made and set herself and her family up for success. We don’t need your morbid “what ifs”(trust me, they keep us up at night), we just ask that you live up to the expectations of the feminist you claim to be and see the variations of success for women inside and outside the home. The family is the cornerstone of our society, and I’ve dedicated my time and effort to building up the future generation that will take care of you (and everyone) someday. If you ever decide to leave the office and work for your family, you’ll be welcomed and encouraged with open arms.
